Job Description

Company: Ingersoll Rand / Trane Website: www.ingersollrand.com
Company Description: In recent years, Ingersoll Rand has transformed itself into a multi-brand commercial products manufacturer serving customers in diverse global markets, and away from the capital-intense, heavy-machinery profile of its past. IR is a global, diversified, and industrial firm providing products, services, and solutions to enhance the quality and comfort in homes and buildings, transport and protect food and perishables, secure homes and commercial properties, and enhance industrial productivity and efficiency. As of December 31, 2008 IR operated in manufacturing and assembly operation in 47 plants in the United States, 28 plants in Europe, 18 plants in Asia, 10 plants in Latin America, and 1 plant in Canada. Ingersoll Rand’s family of industrial and commercial brands includes Club Car golf cars, Ingersoll Rand industrial equipment, Thermo King transport temperature-control equipment, and Trane air conditioning systems and services. Ingersoll Rand has over $14 billion in yearly revenue; over 60,000 employees, distributors in 200 countries, and a 100 year tradition.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Chemical), or come from a highly technical background. You must be able to learn quickly and have a problem-solving mentality. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator and have the ability to listen to a customer’s needs and recommend the best Trane product solution. Trane is looking for team players that want to take their career into their own hands and take advantage of the limitless potential and uncapped commissions this opportunity offers.

Benefits: IR TRANE offers an unmatched, wide-ranging, and complete benefits package including medical, prescription drug coverage, Health Savings Plan, Fitness/ Health Club Reimbursement, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, Short-Term & Long-Term Disability Coverage, 100% Covered Maternal & Parental Leave, Life & Accident Insurance, Matched 401K, Work/Life Program, Volunteer Benefit Program, 15 Days’ Vacation after your first year, Education Assistance Program, Adoption Assistance Program, and much, much more making IR TRANE a great place to work.
Career Progression: You will enter the Training Program and then the sky is the limit as you gain traction as a Sales Engineer. Your initial career progression will be in sales as you grow and develop business. Once you have created a solid sales portfolio, you can progress into Sales Leadership positions (Regional Manager, District Manager, etc). 80% of Trane’s leadership started in this same program.
Keys to Success / Other: This is the ideal company for you if you are a confident, high achiever who has a strong desire to join the 1% of the county in earnings potential. You will work hard and be rewarded for it. You will receive excellent training that is relevant to the job. You will not waste time on mandatory training that is not applicable. All of the benefits and opportunities you will have after you are onboarded are amazing. You will be afforded the opportunity to go as far as you want to go within the company.
IR TRANE is not only looking for the above skill set, but also for people that are willing to go above and beyond and understand and embrace their culture. Prove that you can apply the same principles that led to excellence on active duty to be successful at IR TRANE.
Before you enter a sales interview, you must do four things: Research the company, Research yourself, and Develop a plan for your interview.
Do your due diligence and look up the company online. Important considerations are history, founder, current CEO, location, industry, and awards. Expect to be asked some variation of, “Why do you want to work here?”, or “What do you know about IR TRANE?”
Self-analysis is a critical component of sales interview preparation. Your resume and military evaluation reports are good resources for this portion of your preparation. You must know your resume and be able to talk about your entire career from college to the present. It is critical that you have specific examples that add depth to your answers. Have at least two strong examples of when you were successful selling or influencing a situation. This is the key because you may not have previous sales experience. You need to have examples of times you did 'sell.'
Use STAR (see below) to describe difficult situations and the actions you took to reach a successful conclusion. Demonstrate through examples that you are an individual who is driven, goal-oriented, confident, self-directed, extremely well organized and a strong leader with exceptional communication ability. Understand the requirements as listed above and show your enthusiasm for a great opportunity like this. Conduct your own research and be ready to ask insightful, intelligent, and well thought out questions.
Be prepared for the following: “What is your leadership style like?” (give examples!), “What are your strengths?” (should relate to working with/leading others and learning, attitude, etc.), “Why do you want this position?” (have a well thought out answer prepared), “Give an example of when you had to persuade someone.” (be sure to focus on HOW you persuaded, organized, communicated and attained great results). Think of situations when you provided outstanding leadership and problem solving, both internally and externally to your unit/organization.
For situational questions (“Tell me a time…”, “Give an example…”), package your examples using the STAR format:
Situation (where, when, etc. – set the stage with detail)
Task (what you were setting out to achieve within a timeframe)
Actions (provide most detail here with what you did, how you did it, who you dealt with, what you said, etc…details!)
Results (tangible, quantifiable result, %s, #s, awards that tie back to the task)
