Veteran Job Placement FAQs

What is a military transition?

A military transition refers to the change from military to civilian status for service members currently serving in the military. This can be a move from Active Duty to veteran or to retirement. A service member's military transition is a big life change and the beginning of a whole new experience.

Does Orion provide services to help veterans with their resumes?

Orion offers a robust resume writing guide in our Military & Veteran Transition Resources. From outlining the types of resumes, sample resumes, and podcasts, Orion will coach you through your military to civilian resume writing. Orion's Recruiters are also available to look over your resume to offer additional tips and guidance on how to write a resume with military experience.

Does being a veteran make it easier to get a job?

Employers recognize the value veterans bring to the workplace but often find it challenging to connect with transitioning service members and veterans seeking employment. Veterans are in high demand, so it requires dedicated efforts by employers to find and hire veterans. Veterans need to harness their skills and experience in order to keep up in a competitive job market.

Do veteran owned businesses employ other veterans?

Veteran-owned businesses also recognize the benefit of hiring fellow veterans. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), there are 2.4 million veteran-owned companies in the U.S., and those businesses employ about 5.8 million of their fellow veterans.

What resources are available to help with veteran job placement?

Orion Talent is here to help veterans find a new career. We offer job placement services for Junior Military Officers (JMOs), Senior Military Officers (SMOs), Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs), Navy Nuclear-trained Technicians, Enlisted Technicians, and Combat Arms Personnel transitioning from the military, as well as veterans who have already transitioned but are looking for a career change.

In addition to our job placement services, we offer a comprehensive military and veteran transition resources guide covering everything from resume preparation to interview basics to military life and more.

Can employers give hiring preference to veterans?

Veterans who are disabled and those who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during certain specified time periods or in military campaigns are entitled to preference over others in hiring for almost all federal government jobs. Private employers can also state a preference for hiring veterans. However, those employers still have a duty not to discriminate against any other protected group.
