About the Industry

Commercial Construction

Commercial Construction

Commercial construction is the business of building and leasing or selling spaces in the private sector. These spaces can include but aren't limited to offices, manufacturing plants, medical centers, and retail shopping centers. Commercial construction projects and businesses primarily vary in size and scale.

Smaller scale projects like rebranding and reimaging fall into the scope of commercial construction. These projects refer to interior design updates - taking an outdated space and giving it a new image.

Rebranding and reimaging usually includes fresh paint, new floors, and technology or graphics modernization. Commercial renovation and remodeling are oftentimes mid-size commercial construction projects.

Residential Construction

Residential Construction

Residential construction is the business of building and selling individual and multi-family dwellings. The market fragments into single-unit, manufactured, duplex, quad-plex, and apartments and condominiums. Manufactured housing further divides into mobile homes and pre-built houses. The business varies primarily in the size and scale of the operations.

Typically, a builder buys a piece of land, develops the land by clearing and grading it, then constructs roads, sidewalks, drainage, waste removal, electrical and water supplies.

The builder then offers to build either custom homes or pre-designed homes, or pre-manufactured homes, depending on the market. In certain instances the builder may build one or more homes on speculation or "spec," meaning that the company builds the home without having a ready buyer in the hope that once the house is built, a buyer will appear.

Building Materials

Building Materials

The building materials segment of the construction industry consists of a wide range of companies involved in the mining, quarrying, and processing of raw materials used for both heavy and building construction. Materials such as cement, sand and gravel, clay, concrete, and marble are used in this industry.

Industrial and Equipment Manufacturing

Industrial and Equipment Manufacturing

Those in the industrial construction business design, install and maintain titanic structures including power plants, skyscrapers, warehouses, factories and other larger-than-life projects. The work can be as varied as working on a bridge, a dam or an oil refinery.

Industrial construction is a specific form of building that requires expert training and highly experienced workers who can multitask. Many industrial construction companies are large, multinational firms.

The equipment manufacturing industry produces equipment for residential, nonresidential, highway and other infrastructure construction. Companies in this industry build heavy-duty automobiles, specifically designed for implementing construction tasks, most commonly equipment concerning earthwork operations. Additional equipment includes power cranes, draglines and shovels, tractor shovel loaders, and other construction machinery and equipment.

Job Ref: # EB-1683447434
Date Posted: 7/2/2024 1:18:55 PM
City, State: National, XX
Category: Construction
Salary: $80,000 - $80,000

Job Description

Position Details:
Title: Leadership Development Program (LDP)
Location: Anywhere near 200 locations nationally initially. During the training period (first 52-54 weeks), you will rotate across typically 3 business locations, spaced out during the LDP program. Upon completion of the program, you will be permanently placed in a leadership position typically in one of the business units in which you did a rotation or one that best suits your development, growth, and company’s business. Obviously, many factors come into play regarding location of your permanent placement (including your personal preference), but you MUST be geographically flexible and open to relocating as needed. With over 200 branches and corporate locations around the country, you will find that opportunities are numerous enough such that you will not have a hard time making a location work for you.
Shift: This role is a Salary exempt role, so standard normal day working hours Monday – Friday.
Compensation: $80K base first year + annual bonus profitability + $10K placement bonus upon graduation. $100K+ W2 annually with consistent growth.
Benefits: The primary benefit of this position is the unique opportunity for you to be immersed in a relatively low-stress, educational leadership devilment environment for your first year. The company also offers strong medical/dental/vision packages, 401K, 15 days PTO with 9 paid holidays, life insurance and an Employee Stock Option Program (ESOP).
Travel: Varies widely depending on selected rotations. You obviously will travel extensively during the first year (during the training rotations). To minimize potential impact on your family life, company will work with you and tailor your rotation locations such that at least one near your home. For those rotations out of the area, you will be flown home typically every other weekend.

Position Description: This is a CEO-directed Corporate Leadership Development Program that serves as the mechanism to provide the required development to prepare leaders to serve the company in the long term in some of the most needed and critical positions. Candidates who enter this program are expected to become future Presidents and VPs within the organization. Few other LDPs can honestly make that claim. The training program lasts approximately 12 months, during which time you will spend rotations at 3 separate businesses within the company to expose you to the business, teach you their processes, help you understand their culture and customers, and generally get to know selected individual subsidiaries for growth and development. Prior to the LDP you will pick 3-5 locations where you’d like to rotate and company will work with you on the ones best suited for your development and their business. During your orientation, you will sit down with the Leadership Development Team and fully map out your training program, to include businesses, locations, mentors, etc. While on the rotations you will be assigned a senior-level mentor (typically a President or VP) and function in purely a training capacity, where your only responsibility outside of absorbing information will be to complete various short-term, business-specific projects. Every action should be executed with the premise in mind that you are there to be developed for leadership within the company. Upon completion of the training program, you will sit down with the CEO and decide what your first assignment will be and where, likely but not exclusively within one of the businesses with which you did a rotation, in a position of leadership (Service Manager, Branch Manager, Operations Manager, Project Managers, Sales, etc.) with a clear career opportunity track. The company has 200+ offices and branches throughout the US and you will be given the opportunity to go where you and the company feel is good for you professionally, but also where you want to go for personal reasons as well.

Requirements: The company wants candidates who have a demonstrated passion (and knack) for leadership success in dynamic, complex, and very challenging environments. They want visionaries who have a plan to succeed and become executive-level leaders. Candidates with strong interpersonal, team building, and relationship development skills are ideal (former collegiate-level athletes have had tremendous success at APi). You must be hard-working, demonstrate critical thinking ability and embrace challenges. And you must be eager to learn their safety, specialty, and industrial business with location and travel flexibility (at least during the first year).
