Go to end ⇓As a Maintenance & Repair Specialist, you will support fleet operations by overseeing chassis inspection, maintenance, and repair activities across assigned container yards (CYs). This role is responsible for controlling Maintenance & Repair (M&R) costs, managing out-of-service (OOS) equipment levels, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring company safety and repair standards are met. You will serve as a key field-based point of contact between vendors, logistics teams, and internal stakeholders to maintain equipment availability and service levels.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect chassis and enter work orders into the Caliber M&R system at assigned locations
- Monitor and control M&R costs for chassis across specified facilities
- Manage OOS equipment levels, including repair estimate approvals and repair limit compliance
- Communicate regularly with logistics teams regarding equipment availability and requirements
- Update chassis OOS status and repair notes in the M&R system
- Conduct daily visits to local container yards to ensure M&R issues are addressed and policies are enforced
- Provide detailed written reports to management on equipment or vendor issues
- Ensure company inspection and repair standards are clearly communicated to and followed by vendors
- Partner with vendors to improve productivity and repair quality
- Monitor and control spare parts inventory for company-owned parts
- Review, transmit, and reconcile work orders daily; resolve discrepancies with vendors
- Perform monthly safety reviews and conduct shop/site audits
- Monitor and release DVIR/DVER inspections as required
- Review M&R system reports, vendor scorecards, and duplicate work order reports
- Generate documentation for third-party billing and damage recovery
- Track and order chassis license plates
- Respond to correspondence within one business day
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- 5+ years of experience in maintenance and repair with strong knowledge of chassis or trailer repair
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a field-based role
- Strong communication skills to enforce policies and resolve issues with vendors and terminal personnel
- Ability to interface professionally with internal and external customers
- Willingness to travel locally 60–80% weekly
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and federal screening
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience working with container yards, logistics, or transportation fleets
- Familiarity with M&R systems such as Caliber
- Strong cost-control, reporting, and vendor management skills
