Engineering Careers for Veterans

Engineering is an in-demand career field and encompasses a broad range of positions. While many JMO candidates don’t feel qualified for a position in this field since they have been out of school for several years, in many cases it doesn’t matter if you have an engineering degree or not.  Companies may take a candidate with a hard science degree, strong technical aptitude, and practical experience for some engineering roles.

Serving as an Engineering Division Officer on a ship or the Quality Assurance Officer in your squadron may qualify you for an engineering role. Orion has helped find engineering careers for JMOs from many different backgrounds, including Aviation Officers, Artillery Officers, Nuclear Surface War Officers, Army Corps of Engineers, Communications Officers, and Pilots.

Engineering careers span virtually all industries and can range from technical to managerial. Veterans interested in engineering careers should be interested in quality and process improvement and have hands-on experience. From initial engineering roles, you can expect to move into other roles of increasing responsibility to include Engineering Manager, Plant Management, and, ultimately, into executive leadership positions within a company.
