Engineering Careers for Veterans

Engineering is an in-demand career field and encompasses a broad range of positions. While many JMO candidates don’t feel qualified for a position in this field since they have been out of school for several years, in many cases it doesn’t matter if you have an engineering degree or not.  Companies may take a candidate with a hard science degree, strong technical aptitude, and practical experience for some engineering roles.

Serving as an Engineering Division Officer on a ship or the Quality Assurance Officer in your squadron may qualify you for an engineering role. Orion has helped find engineering careers for JMOs from many different backgrounds, including Aviation Officers, Artillery Officers, Nuclear Surface War Officers, Army Corps of Engineers, Communications Officers, and Pilots.

Engineering careers span virtually all industries and can range from technical to managerial. Veterans interested in engineering careers should be interested in quality and process improvement and have hands-on experience. From initial engineering roles, you can expect to move into other roles of increasing responsibility to include Engineering Manager, Plant Management, and, ultimately, into executive leadership positions within a company.

Examples of Engineering Positions Available to Veterans

  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Chemical Engineer
  • Civil Engineer
  • Project Engineer
  • Maintenance Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Manufacturing Engineer
  • Facilities/District Engineer
  • Engineering Manager

Orion’s clients come to us to recruit the best the military has to offer, and we continue to have success matching talented JMOs with engineering positions with top companies like BASF, Lutron, PPL Corporation, and Honda, among others. According to Your Peers

"Orion helped me with interview preparation during which I learned more about myself. What I learned during the preparation sessions gave me more confidence and focus for interviews. My recruiter explained which certifications I had that were in most demand by employers. I had great dialogue with my recruiter and all my needs and concerns were met." - Vincent Price, Data Analyst

"I was very fortunate that I was hired by the first company with which Orion matched me. Orion coordinated both my initial phone interview, and subsequent onsite interview. Before I left the onsite interview, I was told that they would be extending an offer. I am now a Construction Manager. Focus on attention to detail and safety are the same. Orion was great, they were able to find a position that fit my wants and needs." - Matt Manns, Construction Manager

"I felt that I was treated extremely well and was put in front of jobs that I wouldn't have thought I was qualified for. I have recommended Orion to every other veteran I know who is currently seeking a job. What a terrific service you guys provide! Thanks Orion for absolutely meeting all my needs!" - Mark Sabuda, Shift Manager
