U.S. Hiring Managers Expect to Hire More in the Second Half of 2016

Good news for all the job seekers out there, US hiring managers are expected to hire more in the second half of 2016. According to the semi-annual hiring survey released by job board operator and leading provider of data insights, DHI Group Inc., the survey found 61% of hiring managers and recruiters in the US anticipated more hiring in the second half of the year.

What does this mean? Hiring managers in the US are prepared to hire more professionals before the end of the year. Employers hiring across many industries intend to hire 30 percent more professionals in the second half of the year compared to the first half of the year. To get there, hiring managers need to build a pipeline of candidates to fulfill their companies' hiring needs.

Another plus - not only are hiring managers amping up their hiring plans for the second half of the year - the back half of 2016 is looking like it will result in higher wages. According to CareerBuilder's midyear Job Forecast, more than half of employers will raise wages for current employees, while 2 in 5 will offer higher starting salaries on job offers in the second half of the year.

Now is the time to work with Orion to plan for your future civilian career and get the most thorough resume and interview preparation assistance. All of Orion's job seeker services are completely FREE of charge, and we work with the most dominant list of corporate clients in the industry. Don't wait! Contact us today!

4 Tips for Negotiating Salary

The salary you are offered for a new position will depend on many factors, including your qualifications, background, the job location, and the pay range for the specific position. In some cases, there isn't much wiggle room when it comes to salary, but even notoriously competitive industries may bend a little. Having insight into what goes into figuring your salary can help you when it comes time to negotiate. As they say, “Knowing is half the battle.” Here are four things to keep in mind as you prepare to negotiate:

  1. Most companies have a small pay band, typically a few thousand dollars, that they can flex based on an individual's performance during the interview process. The best interviewers typically land at the top end of a company's pay band. All the more reason to brush up your interview skills. You can check out our resources here.
  2. Other companies tend to be less flexible about basic pay. When some companies extend an offer, they base it on what they perceive as your market value. These companies feel that they have a pretty good idea about what they have to pay to be competitive and attract the best candidates.
  3. A company's benefits package can add several thousand dollars to an offer, and salary alone should not be the only consideration on compensation. Think about the entire package and decide what best meets the needs of you and your family.
  4. Once you're armed with the facts above, you'll need to know how to put them into play. This is where our Negotiating Salary webinar, a step-by-step guide to effective salary negotiation, comes into play. You will learn the context, techniques and approaches available to develop an effective salary range and strategy for any job offer. Register today to attend our upcoming Negotiating Salary webinar.

In the end, negotiating is not about winning at all costs. It's about agreeing on terms of a job offer that will satisfy you. Salary negotiations, like anything else, need to be done respectfully and kept in perspective. Always be courteous, direct and honest.

It is a golden opportunity to meet with several prospective employers all at once, all of them very high quality. And Orion prepares you well. "My Orion recruiter did a great job of finding me employment. He listened to what I was looking for and made recommendations that he knew I would be interested in. I attended an Orion Hiring Conference where I interviewed with Johnson Controls and later accepted a position with them. Orion 100% met my needs! I would recommend Orion’s services to all of my shipmates coming off active duty and reservists. "- Jaime Herrero, Sr. Account Executive

"The time and preparation Orion takes to find the best possible match between candidates and employers is unmatched in the industry. If you want the process done right the first time and are looking for employment immediately, Orion is the company that can fulfill that requirement.

Orion brought quality companies to that table that were looking for candidates like me. The preparation for the conference was very thorough and gave me the advantage to impress employers during my interview. Thanks Orion Team for doing an excellent job of listening to my needs and fulfilling my requirements!" - James Childers, Advance Management Partner

"I began searching for jobs in October of 2015 when I relocated to Ohio from New York City. I have both a Master’s degree and Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Toledo.

I am now a Production Supervisor at Autoplas, where I am a shift supervisor, which is similar to leading soldiers. However, my new position has helped me groom my leadership skills and be more adaptable to people who have never served.

My Orion recruiters were very engaging and went the extra mile to ensure I was placed into a role that was equivalent to my skill set. Thanks Orion!" - Adam Bockrath, Production Supervisor
