New E-Book - 1999-2019: Lessons Learned from 20 Years of Military Hiring

Twenty years have passed since Andy Pero and Shane Bishop, Account Executives at Orion Talent and Service Academy graduates, began their post-military careers at Orion. During that time, Andy and Shane have helped at least 400 companies hire more than 2,000 veterans, and have gleaned some valuable best practices. Andy and Shane explain that in 1999, military candidates were not high in demand, and the act of selling their talents was more about convincing companies of their value. “Early in my career, hiring vets was a new concept, and I was more in an introduction and education mode,” states Andy. This dynamic has since changed from transactional recruiting to long-term partnerships, as companies now recognize the value of hiring a veteran, and seek to be industry leaders in military recruiting, onboarding and retention.
 
Andy and Shane have witnessed this shift and expertise and have evolved their approach as a result.
