  • Forbes Article Highlights New Orion Talent CEO Sarah Peiker and Her Commitment to Veteran Hiring

Forbes recently published an article featuring Orion Talent’s new CEO Sarah Peiker, who joined the company in October with a commitment to expand Orion’s veteran talent pool, as well as help companies onboard former service members. Written by Cheryl Robinson, the article details Peiker’s professional background, her commitment to furthering Orion’s legacy as a bridge between veterans and civilian employers, and Peiker’s advice for transitioning military personnel seeking meaningful new careers.

Professional Background

Peiker began her career in hospitality working in the human resources department before she discovered her love for recruiting and entered the recruitment field full time. Peiker worked at ManpowerGroup Talent Solutions for the next two decades.  As Senior Vice President, RPO, she built out ManpowerGroup’s RPO practice in Europe throughout a 24-country region. With Orion Talent, Peiker has committed herself to a new challenge and looks forward to continuing Orion’s legacy of bridging the gap between organizations and veterans through military hiring tactics, events, and veteran outreach.

Commitment to Veteran Hiring

Sarah tells Cheryl that veteran hires bring diversity to a team, as well as a wide range of skills, experience, technical know-how, self-determination, and the competence and willingness to use their troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to push forward for a client. Hiring veterans makes good business sense.

“The purpose of Orion from diversity to getting back into meaningful, sustainable work is really critical for me,” says Peiker. “It’s important for not only our country but for the economic trends that we’re seeing right now in the world or at least in the U.S. with a skill shortage and with the focus on diversity. There needs to be a new way for companies to fill this talent that they need. The military happens to be one of those areas that I think is underutilized in order to get these soft skills. ... I’m passionate about recruitment. And I think this divide between the civilian and the military, which you hear a lot about how companies are having a hard time finding a way to connect the dots. So that’s why I’m here, and I’m really happy to be here.”

Peiker offers solid advice for veterans looking to land meaningful jobs post-military:

  • Understand your why.
  • Figure out which opportunities are supporting your lifestyle and desires.
  • Learn to ask your network for help.
  • Bouncing ideas off of others is a great way to identify what you really want to do.

Collaboration and Teamwork

“I truly believe that you are only as good as your team,” Peiker concludes. “I am very focused on collaboration. Collaboration does not always mean consensus. But it’s about making sure everyone has a seat at the table and has a voice.” She’s committed to working closely with her colleagues and peers as Orion Talent rebrands and looks toward the future.
