For AmeriPro Health, hiring veterans isn’t just a recruiting strategy. It’s part of the company’s DNA.
Founded by Larry Richardson, Marine Corps veteran and CEO of AmeriPro Health, the company has grown from a small operation with 10 ambulances into a multi-state emergency medical services provider serving more than three million people across the United States. Along the way, AmeriPro Health has built a culture grounded in professionalism, commitment, and integrity, values that closely mirror those of military service.
Today, AmeriPro Health is strengthening that commitment by partnering with Orion Talent to expand opportunities for veterans transitioning into civilian careers in emergency medical services.
Built by a Paramedic Who Served
Before founding AmeriPro Health, Richardson spent nearly two decades working as a paramedic after completing his service in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1995 to 2000. His experience on the front lines of emergency care shaped the way he built the company.
“Veterans bring leadership under pressure, mission-driven focus, and an unwavering commitment to the people who depend on them,” Richardson said. “Those are exactly the qualities required in emergency medical services.”
It’s no surprise that many veterans find the transition into EMS both natural and rewarding.
Why Veterans Thrive in EMS
Many of the skills developed in military service translate directly into emergency medical services. Discipline, resilience, teamwork, and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure are essential in both environments.
According to Lori Riordan, AmeriPro Health VP Human Resources, veterans consistently demonstrate these strengths in the field. “Veterans are very successful at AmeriPro Health because they embody our values,” said Riordan. “They are excellent team players, respond well under pressure, and have an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
These qualities have made veterans an important part of AmeriPro Health’s workforce, serving in roles ranging from frontline EMTs and paramedics to operational leadership positions.
Building a Pathway from Military Service to EMS Careers
To expand its ability to connect with transitioning service members, AmeriPro Health partnered with Orion Talent, whose nationwide network connects employers with military professionals seeking civilian careers.
“AmeriPro Health understands how military experience translates into operational excellence in emergency services,” said Greg Summers, CEO of Orion Talent. “We’re proud to partner to connect transitioning service members with meaningful EMS careers.”
Meet Aquil Allman
One early success from the partnership is the hiring of Aquil Allman, a Marine Corps veteran and Military Recruiter at AmeriPro Health.
In his role, Allman focuses on building relationships within the military community and helping service members understand how their experience can translate into EMS careers.
He regularly travels to Naval Air Station Jacksonville to meet with Family Readiness Officers and connect with service members participating in the Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP). Through these interactions, Allman helps introduce military personnel to career opportunities within AmeriPro Health.
By meeting veterans where they are during their transition process, AmeriPro Health is creating a direct pathway from military service to EMS careers.
Continuing a Career of Service
For many veterans, leaving the military doesn’t mean leaving the mission of service behind. Emergency medical services offer an opportunity to continue making a difference in people’s lives every day.
At AmeriPro Health, that shared sense of purpose is central to the company’s culture.
“Our goal is simple,” Richardson said. “We want every paramedic or EMT who has served in the military to know they have a home at AmeriPro Health.”
By investing in military talent and supporting service members through their transition to civilian careers, AmeriPro Health is building a workforce that reflects the same values of service, teamwork, and commitment that define both the military and emergency medicine.
