This week, we’re proud to profile Patrick Byrne, a former Army Infantry Officer who is now a Human Resources Development Specialist with Thomas Built Buses, the leading school bus manufacturer. When it was time to transition from the service, Patrick reached out to Orion Talent to help him find a civilian career.
Orion was able to offer Patrick the guidance he needed in the interview process. “I was supported in completing a resume that would be relatable to companies outside the military,” Patrick explained. “Before my first Hiring Conference, I participated in a few training calls and learning sessions with my Recruiter so I knew more about what to expect in interviews and how to answer questions better.”
At the Orion Hiring Conference, Patrick interviewed with numerous companies, including Thomas Built Buses, who requested a follow-up interview and ultimately offered him a position.
Patrick accredits his experience gained as an officer in the military in negotiating, policy enforcement, and problem solving as detrimental in his new role. “I have connected very well with my current career,” he said.
Patrick also offered some advice for transitioning servicemembers. “A background as a service member, especially from the infantry branch can prepare you for taking on almost any role in an organization,” he assured. “There is a lot that you have to offer companies.”
For Patrick, using Orion Talent to help find his post-military career felt more like a partnership, offering support and taking his needs and desires into consideration. “I was pleased by the interaction Orion had with me. The process was more of a relationship, instead of directions to the next interview.”
