Position: Core Product Development Engineer

Location: Detroit, MI

Salary: $80k-$115k



Qualifications:



Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, BSME or similar
Experience (5-7 years preferred) with design, validation, and release of constant velocity joints and related components.
Prior experience with CAE tools, problem solving techniques, and powertrain NVH
CAD solid modeling (Creo or Fusion 360 preferred)
Spline design & inspection
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in the job-related area.
Ability to interpret highly analytical documentation and present solutions to internal and external customers.
Ability to work independently, while also working effectively within a team environment.
Excellent written and oral communication.
Knowledge of TS-16949 and automotive PPAP requirements.
Familiarity with steel forgings, precision machining and grinding, heat treatment, and welding technologies
Working knowledge of GD&T concepts.




Responsibilities:



Develop new/creative constant velocity (CV) joint solutions to provide greater value and satisfaction to customers, while strengthening the company's competitive edge and profitability within the driveline market.
Support application engineering teams by leading design and release of high speed constant velocity joints.
Support application engineering teams by leading validation and testing of high speed constant velocity joints.
Apply standardized engineering calculation methods and templates for common driveline strength and durability calculations, including cumulative bearing damage, fatigue damage, and reliability metrics.
Assist application engineering teams in the analysis of customer vehicle requirements and road load data to assess strength, reliability, and cumulative damage expectations for development of robust CV joint designs.
Lead and support various cost reduction, VA/VE and R&D activities for constant velocity joints, including participation in idea generation, concept development and testing.
Lead development of common/core DFMEA for constant velocity joints within AquaPro system.
Lead development of engineering standards and design guidelines for constant velocity joints.
Provide technical support for manufacturing issues, new model launches, and customer issues
Initiate and manage prototype activity and testing for CV joint projects, including prototype builds, test planning, post-test analysis, teardown and DVP&R reporting.
Support root cause analysis activities related to quality, warranty, and test concerns.
Interface closely & build technical relationships with suppliers, customers, and internal departments.
Define designs and initiate procurement of required material to support prototype builds and validation tests within program timing constraints.
