Job Description
The Biomedical Equipment Engineer I is responsible for installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining biomedical and medical diagnostic equipment at hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout an assigned territory. This field-based position performs preventive maintenance, performance testing, safety inspections, corrective repairs, equipment modifications, and other technical services to ensure medical equipment operates safely and reliably.
This role is well suited for a hands-on technician with experience in biomedical equipment, electronics, electromechanical systems, industrial maintenance, military technical systems, or mechanical repair. The position requires independent field work, strong customer interaction, accurate service documentation, and daily travel throughout the assigned territory.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, Healthcare Technology Management, or equivalent technical experience
- Experience repairing electrical, mechanical, electromechanical, or biomedical equipment
- Experience performing preventive maintenance, inspections, calibration, and equipment repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical systems
- Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems
- Basic electronic troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, and service documentation
- Ability to distinguish wiring color codes and electrical components
- Ability to use diagnostic equipment and specialized test instruments
- Ability to perform performance assurance and electrical/mechanical safety inspections
- Ability to diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Strong written documentation and computer skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office, databases, and email
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently in a field-service environment
- Ability to accurately document maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment history
- Ability to follow healthcare safety, infection-control, and PPE requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable personal transportation and required vehicle insurance
- Ability and willingness to travel daily throughout the assigned territory
- Ability to accommodate occasional overnight, evening, and weekend travel
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to move equipment weighing up to 125 pounds with appropriate assistance
- Ability to perform physical activities including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and using hand tools
