Go to end ⇓- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnoses vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspection.
- Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Saves, tags, and delivers parts of the job to the Parts Department if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
- Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicates with Service Advisor or Shop Foreman immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Communicates with customer, accompanied by the Shop Foreman, on specific complaints or details of repairs as needed.
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road tests vehicles when required if holds a Commercial Drivers License and certified as a company driver.
- Consistently maintains training and education as assigned by management.
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical updates.
- Reports shop tool/equipment defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensures that customers' vehicles are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
- Keeps shop area neat and clean. This includes general areas, work bays, and yard.
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
- Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
- Strives for harmony and teamwork within the department and with all other departments.
- High school diploma required.
- Previous experience in diesel repair required.
- Will consider combination of education and experience.
- Commercial Drivers License preferred.
- Certification under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations required to operate a vehicle.
- Lifting in excess of 100 pounds is required.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and otherwise maneuver in and around heavy trucks.
- Must be able to use a variety of hand-held tools and equipment associated with repair work.
- Must be able to work with a personal computer.
- Organization is a prime concern and every effort is made to insure a neat, clean and organized working environment.
- Work is performed indoors in a shop facility and outdoors on the dealership lot.
- Work is subject to temperature extremes.
- Will be working around hazards and chemical components outlined in the material safety data sheets available in the shop.
