Maintenance Supervisor

Midwest
US Army, O-3

I started my military career as an Air Force Communications Officer. However, in 2008 I transferred to the Army using the Blue to Green Program and became a Field Artillery Officer. I was a post-command Captain when I separated and began working with Orion in January 2013.

Todd Phillips was my Orion recruiter. I always loved interacting with him, because I felt like he was interested in my needs and interested in placing me with the best company he could find. I recently experienced a drastic change in my family situation that required me to work in a very specific geographic area. Prior to talking with Orion, I talked with some other recruiting firms, and some were only interested in hiring me for minimum wage jobs. Others dropped once they found out my geographic restriction. When I told Todd about my restrictions, he said: Great, we still want to work with you.

My primary placement opportunity with Orion was at the Midwest Hiring Conference in Chicago. It was an excellent two day process. Day one was interview prep training and advice, which was some of the best that I had received. On the second day we interviewed. I personally had interviews with six companies, five of which had openings in the geographic area I was interested in. The last was one that established a good point of contact with a company that sometimes had openings in the area I was interested in working in.

I am now a Maintenance Supervisor at Severstal North America. I have just completed the initial safety training for the portion of the steel mill in which I will be working. I feel that my training in leadership and planning helped prepare me for this position.

I had a great experience with Orion. They worked with me through my restrictions and did not pressure me to come to the hiring conference until they knew there would be a good selection of companies there.
