The Data Center MEP Coordinator (Manager) is a senior leadership position providing high-level technical and managerial oversight for the MEP discipline across multiple concurrent data center projects in the Northern Virginia market. This strategic role is accountable for managing and mentoring a team of MEP Superintendents and ensuring standardized execution and a focus on commissioning readiness across the project portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Multi-Site Management
- Manage, mentor, and evaluate a team of Data Center ??? Superintendents, setting clear performance metrics and technical expectations.
- Provide high-level oversight and strategic support for an average of 2 to 3 concurrent data center project sites across the region.
- Lead the professional development of Superintendents, tracking their progression through the initial 3-6 month training period and readiness for future leadership growth.
- Ensure adequate staffing, resource allocation, and technical support is provided to all MEP field teams.
Strategic Planning & Program Management
- Develop and implement standardized MEP construction best practices and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) protocols across all company projects.
- Review and validate overall MEP master schedules, flagging long-lead items, sequencing risks, and major budget variances to executive leadership.
- Lead the review and approval of Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) procedures and witness critical FATs for major owner-supplied equipment.
Commissioning Governance (L1-L3 Strategy)
- Serve as the high-level authority for the General Contractor's Commissioning readiness strategy, ensuring seamless and standardized execution of Levels 1, 2, and 3 testing by the Superintendent team.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with the Owner's representatives and external engineers for high-level technical decisions and issue resolution.
- Establish and enforce clear Turnover Packages (TOP) standards for final documentation required by the Owner's Facilities Management team.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive construction experience, with a minimum of 5 years managing MEP operations in mission-critical data center construction. At least 3 years in a leadership role managing superintendents or project managers.
- Technical Expertise: Expert-level knowledge of mission-critical system design, construction, and the strategy required to deliver all commissioning objectives on time and budget.
- Education/Certifications: Bachelor's degree in construction management or engineering is ideal.
