Job Description

An ideal candidate will have 7-10 years of direct experience with all aspects of the accounting function including a solid understanding of portfolio accounting. Due to the company's culture and small size, a premium is also placed on independent, self-motivated people who excel in their fields of expertise, but can also contribute in other areas. Preparation of Tax returns a MUST have experience. Small company 8 employees.
The primary responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:
• Review the daily reconciliation and ensure completeness and accuracy of all activity
• Supervise month-end closings and NAV calculations
• Prepare financial statements and serve as primary contact for the external auditor
• Prepare and review tax returns for partnerships, corporations, trusts and foundations
• Liaise with 3rd party service providers (brokers, custodians, administrators, etc.)
• Ensure proper security and control procedures are implemented and followed
• Monitor alternative investment portfolio and philanthropic initiatives
• Assist with investment due diligence

At the outset, the role will consist primarily of duties commonly performed by a senior accountant, but there is potential for growth into other functions within the office and projects with organizations funded by the office (both for-profit and not-for-profit).
We expect that the right candidate would be able to demonstrate most, if not all, of the following:
• Strong academic credentials; CPA preferred
• Numeracy and logical thinking
• Well-developed written and oral communication skills
• Ability to independently problem solve
• Comfort reading legal agreements and contracts
• Excellent knowledge of GAAP
• Some experience with investment and/or charitable tax issues
• High proficiency with Excel; macro/VBA/SQL familiarity a plus
• Experience with one or more general ledger software packages
• Proven ability to handle proprietary information with discretion
• Supervisory experience

Although none of the above are strict requirements, the interview process will include a written examination to test proficiency with many of the capabilities enumerated above.
