Orion Talent is helping a Client hire a Automation Engineer in Sacramento, CA

Role and responsibilities:
• Presales and project engineering support for definition of system architecture / operating modes
• PLC firmware application layer adjustments according to customers’ specifications and operating mode.
• Knowledge of PV plants and diesel generator management.
• Knowledge of communication protocols: MODBUS / SUNSPEC
• Schneider Machine Expert software
• CATL software suite.
• DIGIWARE software suite
• Performs start-up and commissioning services, and preventive and corrective maintenance on power management systems, inverters, rectifiers, and control systems, plus other system components. The Automation Engineer / ESS Technician uses Socomec’s XpertSoft program to commission and analyze Socomec BESSs.
• Incumbent uses customers’ computerized maintenance management system and Socomec systems, SOhelp, SOtech, SOsupport to manage service activities, document technical problems, and report on pending and completed service. Additionally, the technician will be trained on and use other manufacturers’ software systems when required for integrated systems employing Socomec’s and others’ equipment.
• Interprets technical documentation and schematics, and perform electrical equipment maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair.
• For Socomec products, the technician will acquire technical expertise through factory and field training from Socomec.
• Prepares professional reports on commissioning, troubleshooting and repair and presents those reports to customers.
• This position requires advanced technical skills plus a high level of communication and interpersonal skills to interact extensively with key clients’ personnel from technicians to senior management, and with facility owners where our client’s equipment is located.
• Previous experience in energy storage or critical power, electrical power generation and distribution management design or R&D is required. Service Administration/Management
• Ensures service reports are reviewed for content and presentation
• Ensures service reports are completed accurately and submitted to customer on time
• Ensures company product and service database application is updated and maintained with accurate information
• Manages booking of remedial, ad hoc and contract customer site visits
• Manages resource planning and scheduling for day-to-day field service.
• Performs and manages preventive and corrective maintenance visits addressing both Socomec equipment and the comprehensive system; that is, including components by other manufacturers such as battery systems
• Installs, troubleshoots, and updates firmware for power management systems, battery management systems and power conversion systems. This includes firmware and software developed by battery system manufacturers such as LG, Samsung and CATL.
• Carries out software fault resolution on site and remotely.
• Distributes software updates to partners
• Assists technicians and partners with troubleshooting and repair, including software fault escalation from site
• Supplies feedback to Socomec factory engineers in Europe on issues found in the field and opportunities for improvement
• Manages technical support requests through the company’s web-based system for receiving customer support requests, managing those requests to completion, and updating product and customer database with outcomes.
• Writes technical reports as directed to address unusual problems and matters requiring product changes
• Subject matter expert in the areas of power conversion, power management, battery management, communications, control systems and remote troubleshooting
• Manages reports issued by staff and technicians to ensure comments are technically correct and fully address customers’ technical concerns.
Education and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or related field required
• Experience in critical power systems, battery energy storage, diesel generator, PV plants and related controls and communication systems including Modbus and TCP/IP protocols
• Demonstrated ability to plan, manage and execute complex scheduling of site visits
• Five years of experience in energy storage and critical power; electrical power generation and distribution management
• Advanced knowledge of control system firmware and software and PLC systems
• At least 5 years of experience in power conversion (bi-directional converters, battery energy storage systems, UPS, and associated control system hardware, firmware and software … PCS, PMS, RBMS)
• Proven experience in AC and DC aspects of battery energy storage systems
• Ability to collect and synthesize information from many sources; must have proficient technical and computer skills to analyze data and prepare accurate, professional reporting
• Excellent report writing and effective communication skills, self-starter with ability to prepare well-written proposals and technical documents
• Able to effectively represent the company and communicate with others at varying technical levels
• Strong focus on delivering the highest level of customer service
• Must have ability to simultaneously manage a large and diverse number of projects, tasks and issues with composure, collaboration, and persistence
• Must demonstrate ability to perform work independently and demonstrate solid organizational skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills: proven ability to exercise good judgment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to clearly communicate with all levels of staff, customers, and contractors, energy service companies, utilities, and representatives from end-user organizations
• Anticipates and communicates in advance any potential issues or delays and their impact
• Capable of working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, managing, and completing multiple tasks within tight deadlines and in accordance with the project deliverables and customer requirements
• Ability to travel to customer facilities, and for training, meetings, etc. as needed
• Valid driver’s license
• Valid passport for international travel
• Able to obtain clearance onto sensitive government installations, background checks and fingerprinting are required by customers on some projects
• Commitment to health and safety best practices and regulations
• Ability to adhere to standards and ensure compliance with customers’ specific requirements on each project
• Must be able to purchase airline tickets, rent vehicles, reserve lodging at own expense with full reimbursement monthly
