Job Title:  Controls Specialist       

Reports To: Service Supervisor

Summary

A Controls Specialist (CS) is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service on products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Defense commensurate with appropriate certification. The CS is required to establish, promote, and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and others as appropriate. The CS is also required to maintain continuous communication with Region Offices, and direct manager.


Principle Duties and Responsibilities

ROLE
  • Controls Specialist conducts installation, testing, and troubleshooting services for the controls systems on FMD engine lines 
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to diagnose problems and develop solutions for qualified engines
  • Can work independently on qualified engines
  • May occasionally be assigned to shop duties such as general machining, part inspections, assembly, testing, and warehouse.

TECHNICAL
  • Keep current on Engineering Change Orders, Field Service Change Notices and Service Information Letters
  • Document work performed on Service Reports and write Condition Found Reports
SAFETY
  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines
  • Wear appropriate PPE as per company guidelines and accordance with job duties
  • Report all work related accidents or injuries immediately to the appropriate personnel
  • Complete annual safety training requirements as outlined on regional safety schedule

ADMINISTRATION

  • Knowledge of two and four stroke engine operating theory preferred

  • Crane Maintenance Technicians will be responsible for maintaining the facility’s Overhead cranes. 
  • Duties include but are not limited to inspection, calibration, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical Crane equipment.

Requirements:

  • Work experience supervising and managing heavy industrial maintenance teams. Need to have hands-on familiarity with the maintenance of engines, automation/controls, hydraulics, refrigeration systems, cranes, welding, motor controls, and/or
    related equipment but WILL NOT do hand on maintenance work. Union location, managers do not do hands on maintenance.

Position: Tool Room Technician
Location: Fort Wayne, IN
Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Position Summary:
As a Tool Room Technician, you will set up, operate, and maintain CNC and manual machining equipment to produce and verify tooling for forge press operations. You’ll interpret blueprints, adjust machine settings, ensure precision part machining, and maintain tool inventories to support production readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate CNC turning centers, milling machines, manual lathes, surface grinders, and CMMs.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and G/M code programs.
  • Perform basic-to-advanced setups and machining of forge press tooling.
  • Verify part accuracy, adjust machines, and replace tooling as needed.
  • Coordinate engineering changes and implement process updates.
  • Organize, maintain, and monitor tool inventories; review tool breakage and assist with problem-solving.
Qualifications:
  • 1–3 years’ experience setting up and operating CNC lathes and mills.
  • Ability to read/edit CNC programs and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Skilled with measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, indicators).
  • Strong math, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
