Overview

Overview

X-Ray Welders are Skilled Structural Welders that can fabricate a weld without defects to undergo a radiographic X-ray inspection.

The Function: This position encompasses welding on Sub safe/Hull integrity joints according to weld procedures and quality standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Weld in all welding positions and on various joint designs
  • Gouging of full penetration welds
  • Responsibility for welding with high quality, speed, and efficiency
  • Expectation that final will meet internal policy standards and UT / RT acceptance criteria
  • Selected applicants will be required to successfully complete a RT welding test along with satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period to demonstrate proficiency in X-ray welding

Qualifications

Required:

STO Test Mechanic - CLB

Overview
The Shipyard Test Organization is the premier trade made up of a team of world class testers who have the knowledge and skill to be the last in line delivering the most capable warships to the U.S. Navy. In STO, we are a learning organization that operates daily on our foundational pillars of proper planning, integrity, and ownership to complete operational testing with the highest level of formality. 
 
Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to: 
  1. Perform hydrostatic testing of all Shipboard, Steam and Electric Plant, Auxiliary and Weapons systems.
  2. Complete and maintain the required training to perform mechanical operational testing of all Steam and Electric Plant, Hydraulic and Weapons systems which may include going on sea trials.
  3. Complete and maintain the required training to perform watch standing duties to include: operate ship’s mechanical systems; roving watches required for ship safety, safety dispatch or to monitor mechanical systems required as part of the construction which may include weekend work.
  4. Complete and maintain the required training to perform the duties of a safety technician which requires making systems safe for trade work utilizing Electric Boat’s Lock out/Tag out procedures.
  5. Complete and maintain the required training to maintain the requirements for system cleanliness
  6. Ability to follow written procedures and comply with requirements
  7. Exhibit high moral character and integrity required to certify NAVSEA test requirements
  8. Exhibit the ability to read and understand various system and test diagrams/drawings required for all mechanical system testing.
  9. Work onboard submarines under construction during all phases of construction in all types of weather.
  10. Work requires heavy lifting, pulling and climbing (ladders) and work in tight/confined spaces for extended periods of time.
  11. Be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  12. Install, maintain and remove test equipment (hoses, fittings, test pumps, etc.) and have the ability to understand the different types of test equipment, fittings and hoses for each system and apply them correctly per system requirements.
  13. Perform other duties assigned by their supervisor.
  14. Complete and maintain the required training to use radiological dosimetry to work within radiological controlled areas when required.
Pay: $28.70 - $41.14/hr

Qualifications Required:
  • High School diploma or GED or 2+ years technical experience
  • Must be available for any shift
  • Prior formal training or job experience with mechanical systems and/or testing.
Preferred:
  • Prior US Naval submarine system experience or prior testing experience with shipboard systems
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Related military training, mechanical training from Vocational, Technical or Community College, or Type II or Universal Freon certification as defined by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F”.
