Go to end ⇓As a Shift Supervisor, you will serve as the senior plant leader on duty during your assigned shift, with responsibility for personnel and equipment involved in the production of steam and electricity. You will plan, coordinate, supervise, monitor, and control shift operations, material handling, and related maintenance and engineering activities while ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable plant performance.
This role requires proven leadership in a power plant or closely comparable continuous-process industrial environment. The strongest candidates will bring technical credibility, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through normal operations, abnormal conditions, outages, and emergencies. The Shift Supervisor has the authority to take necessary actions to protect personnel and equipment, including reducing load or removing major equipment from service.
Responsibilities
- Lead safe operation of the power plant and provide direct supervision to on-shift operations personnel
- Serve as the senior individual on duty and take appropriate action to protect personnel, equipment, generation capability, and environmental compliance
- Plan, coordinate, supervise, monitor, and control plant operations, material handling, and related maintenance activities during the shift
- Ensure compliance with environmental permits, regulations, laws, company policies, safety requirements, and plant operating procedures
- Conduct routine plant tours, inspect equipment, verify work practices, and provide direction and feedback to employees
- Review operating logs, chemistry data, equipment status, downtime, outage information, and performance indicators and ensure deficiencies are addressed
- Plan, direct, and perform functional testing of plant systems and components
- Investigate plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events and develop appropriate reports, recommendations, and follow-up actions
- Verify switching, tagging, clearances, and equipment isolation activities in accordance with approved procedures
- Plan and supervise preventive and predictive maintenance activities and support corrective maintenance
- Write, review, revise, and enforce operating and related procedures
- Support operator qualification, on-the-job training, classroom training, and employee development
- Maintain accurate shift logs, reports, work orders, material requisitions, time records, and other operating documentation
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, NERC, contractors, vendors, and utility representatives as required
- Supervise material-handling operations and associated equipment
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
- High school or vocational school diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least four years of power plant/control room experience or directly equivalent education and operating experience
- At least two years of successful supervisory or shift-leadership experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of power plant equipment, operations, safety, and maintenance practices
- Strong understanding of fundamental power plant principles including AC/DC electrical theory, heat transfer, fluid flow, thermodynamics, chemistry, and related technical concepts
- Ability to understand mechanical and electrical drawings and comprehend technical operating information
- Experience directing personnel during normal operations, abnormal conditions, outages, and emergency situations
- Working knowledge of switching, tagging, clearances, operating procedures, and plant administrative controls
- Ability to qualify as a Control Room Operator and Shift Supervisor at the facility
- Strong written and verbal communication, decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer applications
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet facility fitness-for-duty requirements
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Steam turbine-generator, circulating fluidized bed, coal/refuse-fueled generation, material handling, or comparable thermal power plant experience
- Experience with MSHA-regulated areas, NERC requirements, environmental compliance, and utility/grid coordination
- Experience with heavy equipment operation, rigging, power tools, and maintenance support
- Military senior watch supervisor, engineering plant supervisor, power-generation leader, nuclear/shipboard engineering leader, or comparable plant leadership background
- Experience training, qualifying, coaching, and developing operators and maintenance personnel








As a Pre-Construction Engineer, you will support distributed-generation and utility-scale solar PV projects from conceptual design through pre-construction, mechanical installation, and project completion. This position combines civil design, CAD, project coordination, field evaluation, subcontractor management, and construction planning.
