Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, the CNC Machinist will set up production jobs on CNC mills/lathes in conformance with customer blueprints. This role involves documenting completed processes for transfer to production and defining the measurements of all critical features of produced parts.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC machines, manual mills, lathes, and grinders.
  • Machine parts to customer specifications from blueprints.
  • Write and edit programs at the machine controller using G Code.
  • Design and manufacture fixturing.
  • Assist operators in setup, tooling, and troubleshooting.
  • Continually improve cycle times, processes, setup, and tooling.

  • Thorough understanding of blueprints and geometric tolerances.

  • Member of engineering team and key contributor to New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Review and interpret product design information (design input), available 2D drawings, GD&T, 3D electronic models and other product specifications in order to develop and propose the most suitable machining/production process.
  • Consider and select all tooling and fixturing that will be required for the production. Assist with the design and participate in making of needed fixtures and set up components.
  • Run Vericut simulation software on designs in advance of production to detect errors, potential collisions, or programming inefficies.
  • Set up, operate and program multi-taskers and milling machines using Maztrol Conversational and/or G-Code with ability to use MasterCam.
  • Provide direct technical support to machinists in the machining departments.
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Work with engineering and management to identify, source and implement machine upgrades.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Absolutely MUST have a minimum of three to five years of recent experience in a CNC Programmer role in a Machine Shop / Machining Company that supports the Aerospace, Defense, or Space markets.
  • Minimum high school diploma, preferably with a certificate or associates degree in machining.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience setting up, operating and programming CNC milling or multi-tasking machines.
  • Previous experience with Mazatrol conversational, G-Code EIA-ISO, Mastercam and / or Vericut a must. Proficient knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, and indicators.
  • Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric tolerance and dimensions.
  • Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment.

  • Provide highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices, as well as overseeing any necessary diagnoses, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems.
  • Check out and approve operational quality of system equipment and instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system.
  • Serve as company liaison with customer on administrative/technical matters for assigned projects.
  • Interpret customers' needs and clarify where responsibility for problem resolution falls.
  • May include any aspect of field support, and is not limited to system hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.
