Description
As an ESS Services Engineer, you will play a critical role supporting Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities for advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (ESS). You will ensure successful transition of ESS projects into Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA), closing engineering punch-list items, validating key documentation, and enabling seamless performance through the equipment lifecycle.
In this hands-on engineering role, you'll provide technical expertise to internal teams, customers, and subcontractors-diagnosing system issues, improving performance, coordinating testing, and driving sustainable solutions. This position offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of the clean-energy transition, supporting systems integration, power controls, and distributed energy resource technology.
Responsibilities
- Ensure ESS projects are properly prepared for transition into LTSA and O&M lifecycle
- Resolve punch-list / open engineering action items after commissioning
- Review and validate engineering documentation, including specifications, block diagrams, system interfaces, and single-line drawings
- Provide troubleshooting and root cause analysis support for system performance issues
- Understand and support integration between BESS, PCS, PPC/SCADA, and PMS systems
- Validate system performance and maintain compliance with customer and project requirements
- Support bid/proposal teams by answering technical questions and supplying engineering insight
- Coordinate annual performance testing and contribute test reports for customer use
- Create work instructions and action plans for technicians, customers, and authorized agents
- Develop service bulletins and lead root-cause evaluations to maintain safe and reliable operations
- Support product improvement initiatives, best engineering practices, and lessons-learned feedback loops
- Ensure regulatory compliance with applicable codes and standards including NFPA 855, UL9540/9540A, UL1973, UL1642, and UL1741SA
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 8+ years of Systems and/or Electrical Engineering experience
- Experience in AC/DC-coupled ESS system optimization, integration, and controls
- Knowledge of power systems, battery systems, and controls
- Understanding of power generation and energy industry fundamentals
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation including SLDDs, schematics, and switching procedures
- Familiarity with integration of Battery + PCS/MVPS + PMS solutions
- Strong communication skills with ability to interface with internal teams, customers, and subcontractors
