Description
The Field Service Technician is responsible for the service, installation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of automated pump stations, pump controls, piping, valves, motors, and related equipment throughout an assigned regional territory. This position combines electrical and mechanical troubleshooting with hands-on field service of automated pumping and control systems.
The Field Service Technician will work independently at customer locations, diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, install pumps and motors, maintain telemetry networks, and train customers on proper equipment operation and maintenance. The technician will also identify opportunities for equipment and service sales while maintaining a professional, customer-focused approach.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Strong electrical, electronics, electro-mechanical, or related technical background
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on automated pump systems
- Ability to troubleshoot pump motors and control systems
- Ability to use electrical and mechanical diagnostic/test equipment
- Experience or ability to use multimeters, process meters, meggers, vibration meters, laser alignment tools, and related diagnostic instruments
- Ability to learn to read and interpret electrical wiring schematics
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical literature
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on pump stations and related equipment
- Ability to install pump stations, pumps, and motors using cranes and other heavy equipment
- Ability to work with automated pump controls and related equipment
- Ability to set up and maintain telemetry networks using radios, cellular modems, DSL lines, and related communications technology
- Ability to instruct customers on proper equipment operation and maintenance procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently in a field service environment
- Ability to adapt to a constantly changing service schedule
- Strong customer-service skills and professional demeanor
- Ability to identify customer equipment and service needs and recommend appropriate solutions
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% regionally
- Ability and willingness to complete increased overnight travel during the training phase
