Description
We are seeking a Testing Technician – Switchgear to perform final inspection, testing, commissioning, and quality verification of custom-manufactured power distribution equipment. This hands-on position ensures electrical equipment meets customer specifications and quality standards before shipment, supporting critical infrastructure applications including hospitals, data centers, utilities, transportation, and industrial facilities.
This position is ideal for candidates with electrical testing, industrial electrical, power distribution, commissioning, switchgear, or military electrical backgrounds who enjoy troubleshooting complex electrical systems and ensuring equipment reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify Bills of Material (BOM), read and interpret electrical schematics, inspect wiring, and perform mechanical inspections.
- Record serial numbers, apply identification labels, install breakers, and complete equipment interconnections.
- Set up, ground, and operate electrical test equipment.
- Perform DC, AC, current, dielectric, and functional testing.
- Complete testing requirements for emergency power systems.
- Upload and configure PLC, SCADA, and protective relay programs.
- Configure communication devices and perform basic PLC and SCADA program edits.
- Document testing results and maintain quality records.
- Take equipment photographs and complete required test documentation.
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards.
- Assist with additional testing department responsibilities as needed.
Must-Have Skills, Experience & Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Technology or a related field preferred.
- Experience maintaining, installing, commissioning, testing, or troubleshooting electrical equipment or systems through work experience or technical education.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Basic knowledge of electrical testing procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel up to 5%.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required.
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience & Education
- Previous experience with switchgear.
- Experience working in a Lean manufacturing environment.
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and protective relays.
- Industrial electrical testing or commissioning experience.
- Experience supporting emergency power systems.
- Knowledge of power distribution equipment and control systems.
