Description

As a Utilities Technician, you will operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain the critical utility systems supporting a large, 24/7 food manufacturing facility. Unlike a role focused only on utility operations, this position combines equipment operation with hands-on maintenance responsibilities across refrigeration, boiler, power-generation, compressed-air, water-treatment, and fire-protection systems.

Ammonia refrigeration experience is the highest-priority technical need for this opening, with boiler experience also highly valued. The successful candidate will bring a strong mechanical and utilities foundation, sound safety discipline, and the ability to develop across additional plant utility systems through on-the-job training and formal technical development.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain plant utility systems supporting continuous manufacturing operations
  • Support the safe and reliable operation of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems
  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain boiler and steam-related equipment
  • Support power-generation and associated utility equipment as assigned
  • Operate and maintain compressed-air systems and related plant utility equipment
  • Support water-treatment systems and associated pumps, valves, controls, and process equipment
  • Monitor and support facility fire-protection systems in accordance with plant procedures
  • Diagnose equipment problems, perform corrective maintenance, and support preventive maintenance activities across utility systems
  • Monitor operating conditions and respond appropriately to abnormal equipment or process conditions
  • Follow strict safety, environmental, maintenance, and operating procedures in a 24/7 process-manufacturing environment
  • Coordinate with maintenance, operations, and facility personnel to maintain utility reliability and plant uptime

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Hands-on industrial utilities, refrigeration, boiler, power-generation, process-plant, shipboard engineering, or comparable military technical experience
  • Industrial ammonia refrigeration experience or a strong directly related refrigeration background
  • Hands-on boiler experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience troubleshooting pumps, valves, piping, motors, and related utility equipment
  • Ability to safely operate equipment while also performing hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Ability to learn additional utility systems including compressed air, water treatment, power generation, and fire-protection systems
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to follow operating procedures in a continuous 24/7 industrial environment

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • RETA Refrigeration 1 or Refrigeration 2 certification
  • Industrial ammonia refrigeration experience in food, dairy, cold-storage, chemical, or process manufacturing
  • Experience with steam, boilers, heat exchangers, control valves, pumps, and fluid-handling systems
  • Military technical experience from Navy Machinist's Mate (MM), Gas Turbine Systems Technician (GS/GSM), Nuclear ratings, or other shipboard utilities/power-generation specialties
  • Experience with compressed air, water treatment, fire systems, or facility power-generation equipment
  • Experience in highly regulated, safety-focused, or mission-critical operating environments
