Combined Heat and Power Technician

Description

As a CHP Technician, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems and microgrid assets. You will work hands-on with power generation equipment—engines, generators, heat exchangers—and control systems to ensure high performance, safety, and uptime. This role is critical to achieving Unison's mission of delivering reliable and resilient on-site energy

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain CHP and microgrid systems to ensure >97% uptime
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical components (generators, pumps, heat exchangers)
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled engine maintenance, including full engine tear-downs
• Diagnose faults using digital and analog tools
• Support safe system operation, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) compliance
• Accurately document maintenance activities and system performance data
• Communicate effectively with team members and customers
• Contribute to a positive culture of accountability, safety, and technical training

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education

• Experience operating or maintaining CHP systems, power generation units, or gas/diesel engines
• Hands-on mechanical experience with high-speed/medium-speed engines, pumps, and heat exchangers
• Experience troubleshooting electrical systems (wiring, controls, relays)
• Comfortable using computer-based tools (Windows, scheduling software, IM platforms)
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a field-based environment
• Strong teamwork and communication skills
• Must possess a valid driver's license
