Description

The Field Service Engineer supports mission-critical power facilities by performing automatic transfer switch (ATS) startups, system modifications, warranty service, emergency response, and preventive maintenance. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role requiring strong electrical troubleshooting skills, safety awareness, and the ability to work independently in high-reliability environments.

This role supports facilities such as data centers, telecommunications sites, healthcare facilities, airports, and other critical infrastructure where uptime and compliance are essential.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform automatic transfer switch (ATS) startups, testing, commissioning, and service.
  • Perform system modifications, warranty service, emergency response, and preventive maintenance.
  • Commission and troubleshoot low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems and switchgear.
  • Perform protection and control relay commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Use relay testing equipment and software such as Omicron test sets, Doble 6150, DIGSI, and Protection Suite.
  • Troubleshoot electrical control circuits and assess equipment condition.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Support electrical power systems in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, healthcare facilities, telecommunications sites, and airports.
  • Provide field-based commissioning and testing in industrial, utility, and power distribution environments.
  • Work independently at customer sites while maintaining a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Manage assigned projects, meet timelines, and work within budget guidelines.
  • Follow applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and safety requirements.
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Travel nationally approximately 80%.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • 8+ years of experience working on low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Experience with low- and medium-voltage switchgear.
  • Protection and control relay commissioning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience using relay testing equipment and software, such as Omicron test sets, Doble 6150, DIGSI, and Protection Suite.
  • Electrical control circuit troubleshooting and equipment condition assessment experience.
  • Field-based commissioning and testing experience in industrial, utility, or power distribution environments.
  • Experience supporting electrical power systems from low-voltage through medium-voltage switchgear.
  • Experience working in critical power environments such as data centers, healthcare, telecommunications, airports, or similar facilities.
  • Experience testing and servicing automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Familiarity with applicable electrical codes and industry standards.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects, meet timelines, and work within budget guidelines.
  • Self-directed with a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • 10+ years of field service experience in power distribution or protection systems.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong understanding of power distribution, DC/AC systems, and voltage circuit theory.
  • Advanced troubleshooting experience in mission-critical environments.
  • Excellent time management, organization, and follow-up skills.
