Description

CNC Programmer

Location: Farmingdale, NY
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Superior Motion Controls is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CNC Programmer to join its precision manufacturing team. In this role, you will develop, write, edit, and optimize CNC programs for a diverse fleet of milling centers and lathes. You will translate 2D blueprints and 3D CAD models into high-precision finished components while supporting setup, first-article inspection, troubleshooting, and continuous process improvement.

What You'll Do

  • Create, edit, and optimize G-code and M-code programs for multi-axis CNC mills and lathes using CAM software.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications to plan efficient machining sequences.
  • Select cutting tools, fixtures, machine speeds, and feed rates based on material properties, including steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys.
  • Perform test runs, make manual program adjustments or offset shifts, and partner with Quality to verify first-run parts meet exact dimensions.
  • Debug programming errors and diagnose mechanical or process issues directly on the shop floor to minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and machinists to reduce cycle times, minimize material waste, and improve tooling lifespan.
  • Maintain program libraries, setup documentation, and other required records while following company safety protocols and industry regulations.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

(These are required for consideration.)

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of proven experience as a CNC Programmer or Senior Setup Machinist in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of manual G-code and M-code editing.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or Cimco.
  • Experience backplotting existing programs and editing existing G-code.
  • Direct experience programming or operating machines with Fanuc and Mitsubishi/Neomatic controllers.
  • High proficiency with precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Strong shop math skills, including geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with engineering and machinists to develop and refine programs.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety rules and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, work in a shop-floor environment, and perform the physical requirements of the role.

Nice-to-Have Skills

(These are preferred but not required.)

  • Trade school training or completion of a mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Professional CNC certification.
  • Hands-on programming experience with OKK machines, including the MCV series, Makino or Quantum mills, and Samsung or Vintec lathes.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry such as aerospace, medical device, or defense manufacturing.

Who You Are

  • Detail-oriented and committed to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting directly on the shop floor and working across multiple controller platforms.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple parts, programs, or production issues under tight time constraints.
  • Collaborative and able to work effectively with engineering, quality, and shop-floor teams.

Additional Details

  • Schedule: Day Shift, Monday-Friday; occasional overtime.
  • Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Travel: Not specified.
  • Certifications: Professional CNC certification preferred, but not required.
  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; PTO and paid company holidays; tuition reimbursement or continuous technical education programs.
