Description
The Commissioning Agent is responsible for testing, verifying, and commissioning the critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure that supports mission-critical data center operations. This position performs startup and functional testing on generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transfer switches, PDUs, transformers, chillers, pumps, and building automation and management systems to ensure equipment and systems operate properly before facilities become operational.
This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity with a structured technical qualification program. The role is well suited for candidates with military nuclear, power generation, electrical, mechanical, or avionics backgrounds. Prior commissioning experience is not required for candidates with a strong technical foundation and the ability to learn procedure-driven commissioning processes. Preferred: Columbus, OH; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX | Candidates in other locations considered if residing within approximately one hour of a major airport
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Strong technical background in electrical, mechanical, power generation, avionics, nuclear power, or similar technical systems
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical aptitude
- Ability to learn data center commissioning processes and procedures
- Ability to start up, test, troubleshoot, and verify electrical and mechanical equipment
- Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and commissioning test plans
- Ability to inspect equipment installations and identify quality or installation issues
- Ability to perform functional testing of critical facility equipment
- Ability to calculate electrical or mechanical loads and analyze test data
- Ability to accurately document test results and commissioning activities
- Strong technical writing and reporting skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with clients, contractors, vendors, and technical personnel
- Ability to assist with resolving equipment and system issues in the field
- Ability to provide technical training and equipment familiarization to operations and maintenance personnel
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work independently in a field-based environment
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with longer hours as project requirements dictate
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 65–75% or more depending on home location
- Ability and willingness to work typical rotations of 2–3 weeks onsite followed by approximately 1 week working from home
- Candidates outside the preferred markets must reside within approximately one hour of a major airport
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screen
- Ability to comply with random drug-testing requirements at customer sites
