Description
The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction and mining equipment in both shop and field environments. This role performs repairs on hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and drivetrain systems while delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring equipment is returned to peak operating condition.
This position is ideal for experienced heavy equipment technicians, diesel mechanics, field service technicians, or military technical professionals who enjoy solving complex mechanical problems while working independently in the field. Locations: Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN or Pittsburgh, PA
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and drivetrain systems.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment or mobile equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Hydraulic schematics.
- Electrical schematics.
- Technical service information.
- Ability to perform field repairs independently.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Certification.
Requirements:
- Inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction and mining equipment.
- Repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and drivetrain systems.
- Perform field service repairs with minimal supervision.
- Identify mechanical failures and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Source and order replacement parts as needed.
- Complete service documentation accurately.
- Perform welding, brazing, fabrication, and equipment modifications when required.
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
- Support customers by minimizing equipment downtime.
- Travel throughout assigned territory while returning home nightly.

- Technical school graduate.
- Experience working on Volvo Construction Equipment.
- Experience with:
- Hitachi Equipment.
- Sandvik Equipment.
- Link-Belt Equipment.
- Bergmann Equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Diesel engine repair experience.
- Previous field service experience.
- Military technical backgrounds including:
- Construction Equipment Repairer (91L)
- Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (91B)
- Construction Mechanic (CM)
- Equipment Operator/Mechanic
- Heavy Equipment Repair
- Diesel Technician
