Description
The Authorized Inspector performs ASME and National Board shop and field inspections for customers involved in metal fabrication, boilers, pressure vessels, and related equipment. This position reviews code-required activities, evaluates manufacturers' written quality-control systems, witnesses required testing, and verifies compliance with applicable ASME Code, National Board Inspection Code, and jurisdictional requirements.
This opportunity is well suited for a mechanically inclined, self-motivated individual with experience in nuclear reactors or the boiler and pressure-vessel industry who is comfortable working independently at customer locations. Company-provided training is available, including preparation for qualified candidates who need to obtain their National Board Authorized Inspector Commission. Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- High school diploma
- 4+ years of demonstrated experience with nuclear reactors or the boiler and pressure vessel industry
- Relevant experience in one or more areas such as design, welding, fabrication, operations, repair, inspection, NDE/NDT, or quality-control system oversight
- Ability to perform shop and field inspection activities
- Ability to review and verify code-required activities
- Ability to review manufacturers' written quality-control systems
- Ability to witness required testing
- Ability to monitor quality-control systems for compliance
- Ability to understand and interpret boiler and pressure-vessel codes
- Ability to document inspection activities accurately and in accordance with established procedures
- Ability to understand and comply with applicable ASME Code requirements
- Ability to understand and comply with National Board Inspection Code requirements
- Ability to understand applicable jurisdictional requirements for boiler and pressure-vessel construction and repair
- Strong mechanical aptitude
