Description
The Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, commissioning, and supporting automation systems and industrial controls within a manufacturing environment. This role works hands-on with machine electronics, PLC systems, motion control, drives, and sensor networks to support automated manufacturing equipment and improve production performance and reliability. Responsibilities include developing electrical schematics and drawings, selecting automation components, creating bills of materials, configuring electrical systems, and collaborating with technicians during system commissioning. The Automation Engineer will also develop automation software applications, implement communication protocols and control interfaces, troubleshoot existing systems, redesign legacy control systems, and produce technical documentation and user manuals. This role requires strong collaboration with engineering and operations teams to deliver reliable automation solutions that support continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering field
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in automation engineering or industrial controls
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and drafting
• Experience programming PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron)
• Experience configuring HMI systems (Allen-Bradley, EXOR)
• Experience configuring AC/DC drives (Control Techniques, Siemens, Lenze)
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems and control architectures
• Strong troubleshooting, technical problem-solving, and communication skills
