Description
As a Mechanical Technician II you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of industrial propane refrigeration and station equipment. This is a hands-on field position responsible for operating, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting refrigeration systems, compressors, rotating equipment, valves, and associated station systems.
The technician will also support commissioning, startups, shutdowns, emergency response, preventive maintenance, and equipment reliability.
Responsibilities
- Operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot propane refrigeration and station equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair compressors, prime movers, valves, auxiliary equipment, and related systems.
- Support equipment commissioning, startup, shutdown, and emergency operations.
- Respond to equipment failures and operational incidents while maintaining safe operations.
- Develop and execute maintenance job plans and preventive maintenance activities.
- Review and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system documentation.
- Complete maintenance documentation, operational reports, and equipment records.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance teams, and contractors to improve equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to less experienced employees.
- Follow all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of directly related industrial refrigeration experience.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Experience working with compressors, rotating equipment, valves, and associated mechanical systems.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance/operational documentation.
- Strong commitment to industrial safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to perform field work in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime, on-call rotations, weekends, shifts, and standby assignments as required.
- Must live or be willing to relocate within 30 miles of Pontiac, IL.

- RETA CIRO – Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator.
- RETA CRST – Certified Refrigeration Service Technician.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification.
- Propane processing or industrial propane refrigeration experience.
- LNG/NGL or hydrocarbon processing experience.
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience.
- Experience with large rotating equipment and compressors.
- Experience coordinating contractors or small field crews.
- Experience coaching or mentoring junior technicians.
