CNC Machinist - Vertical and Horizontal Machining
Location: Manchester, CT

About the Role
LM Gill Welding & Manufacturing is a long-standing defense supplier supporting naval shipbuilding programs. Due to continued growth, we are seeking experienced CNC Machinists for vertical and horizontal machining centers.
The Machinist must be capable of independently setting up jobs from start to finish, interpreting complex blueprints, identifying tooling and fixturing requirements, and modifying programs at the controller as needed.
What You'll Do
- Independently set up CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers from start to finish
- Review blueprints and specifications to determine machining strategy, tooling, and fixturing requirements
- Select and stage appropriate tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions
- Create, edit, and modify programs at the CNC controller
- Verify first article and in-process inspections to maintain tight tolerances
- Machine precision components for defense and shipbuilding applications
- Work within AS9100 and ISO-regulated quality systems
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to troubleshoot and resolve machining challenges
- Cross-train across machines and support evolving production demands
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Must-Have Skills and Experience
(These are required for consideration.)
- Minimum 5 years of aerospace or defense manufacturing experience
- Full setup capability - not a machine operator
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including interpretation of tolerances and specifications
- Ability to determine tooling, fixturing, and machining approach independently
- Experience editing and modifying CNC programs at the controller
- Experience holding tight tolerances
- US Citizenship required
- Ability to pass drug screening
Nice-to-Have Skills
(These are preferred but not required.)
- 5-axis machining experience
- MasterCAM or similar CAM software experience
- Experience machining weldments, castings, or forgings
- Experience working with nickel alloys or specialty defense materials

Additional Details
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:00 or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
- Salary Range: $35-40/hour based on experience
- Travel: None anticipated
- Certifications: None required. Advanced machining or CAM certifications preferred
