Description

As an Industrial Engine Rebuild Technician, you will perform hands-on disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, refurbishment, and reassembly of large reciprocating engines and engine components. This is a shop-floor role for someone who enjoys engines, precision mechanical work, and seeing a rebuild through from teardown to component inspection and final assembly. The work includes cylinder heads, pistons, connecting rods, oil coolers, intercoolers, water pumps, oil pumps, and related engine components.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble large reciprocating engines and components, including cylinder heads, valve assemblies, oil coolers, pistons, connecting rods, push rods, and lifters
  • Clean and prepare engines and components using rinsing, wet and dry media blasting, and other approved shop processes
  • Inspect, test, repair, and refurbish components such as cylinder heads, intercoolers, water pumps, oil pumps, and connecting rods to manufacturer specifications
  • Drill, ream, tap, cut, fit, trim, and prepare parts and components for repair and refurbishment
  • Read and interpret engine manuals, technical data, specifications, and shop documentation
  • Use precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and gauges to evaluate wear, tolerances, and clearances
  • Identify worn or damaged areas and make sound repair decisions based on measurements and manufacturer specifications
  • Position and align components for assembly using hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, and rigging as appropriate
  • Set and verify component clearances and confirm parts inventory for active jobs
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment including hot tanks, blasting units, forklifts, cranes, hoists, and power tools
  • Support loading, unloading, packaging, inventory, shop organization, facility upkeep, and other production-support activities as needed
  • Follow all PPE, safety, housekeeping, environmental, and equipment-handling requirements

Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Professional hands-on experience with automotive, commercial, diesel, heavy-equipment, marine, stationary, power-generation, or other reciprocating engines
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comfort performing engine disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly work
  • Ability to read and interpret engine manuals, technical data, and manufacturer specifications
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
  • Ability to identify component wear, evaluate tolerances, and set or verify clearances
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions
  • Ability to perform physical shop work including prolonged standing, bending, reaching, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Strong attention to detail, safety discipline, and willingness to support general shop and production needs

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Direct experience rebuilding large reciprocating or stationary power-generation engines
  • GE Jenbacher engine experience; Deutz/MWM, CAT, MAN, or comparable industrial engine experience also transfers well
  • Diesel mechanic, heavy-equipment mechanic, marine-engine, power-generation, or power-technology background
  • Experience rebuilding cylinder heads, pumps, intercoolers, connecting rods, or similar engine components
  • Welding, machining, rigging, forklift, crane, or hoist experience
  • Formal technical training in diesel technology, marine engineering, automotive technology, power generation, or a related trade
  • Military technical experience such as Navy MM, EN, GSM/GSE, MR; Army 91B, 91L, 91D; Air Force 2A6X1 or 3E0X2; Marine 1341 or similar diesel/mechanical specialties; or Coast Guard MK
  • Steam, nuclear, gas-turbine, marine, or other military engineering-plant experience with strong hands-on mechanical capability
