Description
The Field Service Engineer provides hands-on technical support to medical professionals, ensuring high performance and reliability of advanced electro-mechanical medical laser systems. This role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ophthalmic laser equipment used in vision care. The engineer will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and internal service teams to deliver timely, expert-level service and ensure exceptional customer satisfaction.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex electro-mechanical laser and medical systems
• Provide technical support and training to physicians, nurses, and medical staff
• Support sales and service teams with on-site technical problem resolution
• Ensure all installation, service, and maintenance work meets quality and safety standards
• Accurately document service activities, maintenance logs, and customer reports
• Identify and recommend solutions for product performance improvements
• Contribute to development of technical bulletins, service guidelines, and process improvements
• Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, clinical, and engineering teams to enhance customer satisfaction
• Support customers on short-notice calls, including weekends and off-hours coverage as needed
• Technical certification in Electronics, Biomedical, Optical, or Mechanical, or Associate’s degree in Electronics Engineering or Technology (required)
• Minimum 2 years of technical field service experience, preferably in a regulated industry
• Proficiency with test equipment (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of servicing principles, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
• Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in clinical environments
• Valid U.S. driver’s license; ability to travel on short notice, including occasional air travel
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and off-hours as needed
• Degree in Electronics or related field
• Experience in medical device industry, especially ophthalmic laser systems
• Prior laser or optical equipment servicing experience
