Description
As an Electrical Field Service Testing Technician, you will perform commissioning, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of medium- to high-voltage electrical power systems supporting commercial, industrial, and utility customers. This role involves hands-on testing of protective relays, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, controls, and other electrical distribution equipment ranging from 480V to 345kV.
You will work directly with customers at project sites, interpret electrical drawings and relay logic, diagnose electrical and control-system issues, and prepare detailed testing documentation. This position requires strong electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, a commitment to electrical safety, and the flexibility to travel approximately 50%.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
- 1–3+ years of field service experience in electrical testing or commissioning.
- Strong understanding of:
- Circuit breakers
- Protective relays
- Transformers
- Electrical control systems
- Switchgear
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Ability to read and interpret:
- One-line diagrams
- Electrical schematics
- Relay logic
- Familiarity with protective relay systems including:
- SEL/Schweitzer
- GE Multilin
- ABB
- Basler
- Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment and software such as:
- Doble
- OMICRON
- Megger
- RTS/AVTS
- Strong understanding of NFPA 70E arc-flash practices and jobsite safety requirements.
- Strong communication, documentation, and customer-service skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% regionally and nationally.
Requirements
- Perform acceptance, maintenance, and commissioning testing on electrical power systems ranging from 480V to 345kV.
- Conduct testing of electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor-based protective relays.
- Troubleshoot electrical control circuits and power-distribution equipment.

- Perform work in accordance with NETA, IEEE, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Maintain strong electrical safety practices and follow all jobsite protocols.
- Travel to regional and national customer sites as required.
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
- U.S. Navy Nuclear Electrician's Mate (EM) experience.
- U.S. Navy Electronics Technician (ET) experience.
- U.S. Army Prime Power Specialist experience.
- NETA Level II certification.
- NICET Level III or IV certification.
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Prior experience working with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience supporting commercial, industrial, or utility electrical systems.
