POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides leadership to ensure facility compliance with Company IG and customer quality standards, implementation of quality directives, improves quality performance, and ensures facility quality policies and procedures are aligned with industry regulations. Develops plant quality programs and coordinates quality training programs. Facilitates a work environment that supports a proactive, positive, quality committed culture.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead a team of 2 direct report QA technicians and 2 inspectors providing quality support on 2 shifts in a 16-20 hr per day operation.
Improvements:
• Lead and coach those involved in quality investigations to determine root causes and install preventive measures.
• Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work and process waste, raise quality awareness, and improve quality work practices.
• Perform quality audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and quality related equipment to identify and correct potential product risks, and to ensure IG quality compliance and standards.
• Provide trending/analysis of quality data to identify opportunities and drivers to improve quality performance for leaders and employees.
• Help implement continuous improvements efforts identified by customer needs, industry requirements, and operations improvements.
Administrative:
• Track quality concerns from customers and production and conduct follow-through for timely resolutions.
• Track customer SCAR and CAPA reports and lead IG response activities.
• Manage and lead preparation for successful IG Process Audit and industry certifications for IGCC and SGCC.
• Order and maintain tools, measuring devices and special processes used in quality related procedures.
• Prepare trip reports from customer and site visits.
• Perform focused plant training and awareness on quality related topics.
• Engage IG Tech Center for process and material review to ensure IG product durability.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding product and quality matters.
Training:
• Provide periodic quality training for all shifts.
• Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees and plant leadership on quality initiatives and necessary changes.
Committees/Meetings:
• Participate in, and act as, a quality resource for meetings and/or committees.
• Attend Leadership meetings and trainings as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
• Support and commitment to all safety programs and VPP certification initiatives.
• Travel: Customer and site visits, testing labs, other supplying facilities and industry events.
• Participates in reviewing and updating IG and customer quality guidelines.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Work Environment
• This position will be on the production floor (40% - 50%) and office work the remainder of the time.
• Must be able to successfully work in a safety sensitive environment and be dedicated to constantly improving our culture of safety.
• This position will require flexibility to meet varied shift hours. 40+ hours per week which may include weekends.
• Must have open availability any day of the week.
• This position requires travel up to 20%.
Education & Experience
• 4-year degree in a Mathematical, Engineering, or Scientific field
• 3 to 5 years of experience in general industry quality or related field required- production, or manufacturing, environment preferred.
• Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
• Solid knowledge of team-oriented problem-solving methods (such as root cause corrective action) and the ability to facilitate their use in the facility
• Proven ability to work well in a team environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
• Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB) certification
• Experience with the practical application of quality tools, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing methodologies
• Knowledge of Quality Management Systems such as ISO-9001
• Familiarity with the glazing industry and associated industry standards
• Prior experience facilitating training sessions and quality management programs.
• OSHA 10 General Industry certification.
• Statistical analysis training and experience.
