Description
As a Maintenance Technician - Mechanical, you will repair, install, and maintain facility infrastructure, production equipment, and support systems such as freezers, filling machines, conveyors, shrink-wrap machines, boilers, compressors, and ammonia refrigeration systems. This hands-on industrial mechanic role requires strong technical ability across mechanical, electrical, welding, fabrication, and troubleshooting disciplines. You will support daily production operations, uphold safety and GMP standards, and contribute to overall equipment reliability.
Responsibilities:
- Support production of safe, high-quality products and ensure team member safety
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, power drives, and pneumatics
- Install, maintain, and rebuild equipment including conveyors, freezers, and filling machines
- Troubleshoot electrical/electronic control circuits; familiarity with NEC codes
- Perform metal fabrication, welding (MIG/TIG/Stick), and pipefitting tasks
- Operate mechanical equipment: lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, grinders
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics
- Execute PMs and corrective maintenance tasks
- Handle chemicals, paints, solvents, and allergens safely
- Prepare work requisitions; complete and close work orders within CMMS
- Maintain HAZMAT readiness per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120
- Operate forklifts (or obtain certification during probationary period)
- Support variable scheduling when needed to cover other technicians
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years industrial mechanic experience
- NYS-approved millwright apprenticeship, 2-year Mechanical Engineering degree, or equivalent military/trade school
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. push, pull, climb, bend, squat, and work at heights
- Ability to work indoors/outdoors in extreme temperatures (-30°F to 120°F)
- Ability to wear a respirator and maintain Hazmat certification
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic computer/touchscreen use
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and perform mechanical disassembly/reassembly
- Basic math and measurement skills (fractions, decimals, calipers, micrometers, tape measures)
- Familiarity with electrical meters/multimeters
- Knowledge of fluid control systems and pumps
- Tolerance for variable work environments and exposure to chemicals
- Ability to pass HAZMAT physical
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- PLC experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in food manufacturing or regulated environments
