Description
The Engineer in Training Program is an entry point into a field service engineering career supporting power-generation facilities throughout the United States. Participants receive a combination of classroom, laboratory, and hands-on field training focused on the maintenance, inspection, repair, and upgrade of large-scale gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators.
During the first year, participants complete classroom and lab training in Orlando along with on-the-job training at customer power-generation sites nationwide. After completing the training program, Seasonal Field Engineers supervise technicians and mechanics during planned and unplanned turbine-generator outages, coordinate equipment maintenance and upgrades, work with engineering teams, and serve as a primary customer contact during field assignments. The seasonal schedule includes approximately eight months of heavy field deployment with approximately four months off each year. Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Heavy mechanical, electrical, industrial, or power-generation maintenance experience
- Strong hands-on mechanical and/or electrical aptitude
- Experience working with complex industrial equipment or machinery
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Ability to supervise or lead technicians, mechanics, or maintenance personnel
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with customers, technicians, engineers, and project teams
- Ability and willingness to complete extensive classroom, laboratory, and on-the-job technical training
- Ability to learn turbine and generator inspection, maintenance, disassembly, and reassembly procedures
- Ability to learn and follow job-site safety procedures and requirements
- Ability to develop project-management and field-leadership skills
- Ability to coordinate mechanical and electrical maintenance activities
- Ability to work extended 12–14-hour shifts while deployed
- Ability to work weekends and holidays during field assignments
- Ability and willingness to travel 80–100% during the first year
- Ability and willingness to maintain a heavy travel schedule of approximately eight months per year after training
- Ability to work at customer power-generation facilities throughout the United States
