Job Description

Our client is one of the Northwest’s premier structural steel fabricators and erectors. They supply and install hundreds of tons of structural steel every year, whether it is a high rise in the Pearl District, a new school at the coast, or the seismic upgrade of a historic building downtown.

Position: Field Estimator
Location: Portland, OR
Pay: $100-125k

This position requires thorough knowledge of all construction divisions, means and methods to generate accurate scope and pricing based on limited information. The ability to manage a workload of multiple estimates and participation in GC/subcontractor project walks is required. Candidates should be self-starting and highly motivated, with the capability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced environment. The best candidates will be detailed and organized team players with demonstrated delivery in high pressure situations. Responsibilities:
• Oversee and review project plans, requirements, and specifications
• Understand all bid documents and assess project risks
• Develop material takeoffs and construction quantities from drawings
• Define and determine project, labor, and equipment costs
• Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing
• Understand project logistics and project schedule
• Assist with the development of construction logistics plans
• Review quotes and estimates with the project team
• Prepare estimates and different levels of completion (conceptual, schematic, DD, CD, etc.)

Requirements:
• Minimum of 3 years of structural steel erection estimating experience.
• Must have intermediate knowledge running jobs in commercial, industrial, and steel residential.
• Intermediate understanding of cost/estimating, engineering design, and construction practice.
• Onsite field experience is essential
• Ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience working on projects ranging from $10,000 to $5,000,000
• Extensive knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles
• Intermediate knowledge of aspects of structural steel, fabrication and erection with miscellaneous metal concepts understanding necessary
• Experience with estimating software a plus
• Willingness to seek guidance as needed and to work with others to achieve group results.
