Description
In this role you will perform evaluations of insured sites (including nuclear power plants, conventional power plants, and renewablegeneration facilities) equipment inspection programs, maintenance programs, property protection programs, and operational practicesto assess implementation of the Loss Control Standards for nuclear power plants and applicable standards for conventional andrenewable generation facilities. You will work with the Members through the Advisory Committee to identify and implementchanges to the Loss Prevention Program to improve the identification and mitigation of risks. And you will act as liaison for theEngineering Advisory Committee (EAC), Subcommittees, and working groups. Specific duties and responsibilities include (*denotes essential function of this position):
- Performs onsite and remote insurance evaluations at insured facilities in accordance with Loss Prevention procedures.
- Works with individuals and groups such as IAC and EAC representatives, insured contacts, underwriting and brokers to improve the Loss Prevention Programs and improve the risk profile of the insured facilities.
- Performs technical research and maintains knowledge in major insurance loss risk areas; uses this knowledge to develop justification for changes to the Loss Control Standards and inform Loss Prevention Programs. Educates insureds of risk to the Mutual. Identifies trends in the industry (e.g., claims and events) and emerging risks.
- Performs Project Enterprise Risk Assessments. Reviews and assesses the risk of projects to ensure that insurance risks are identified and mitigated.
- Requires completion of the Company Loss Prevention Engineer Qualification Program or equivalent.
- Supports the Underwriting department by providing data associated with Nuclear, Conventional, Excess Liability and other products as needed. Assists in loss investigation and supports Claims personnel as needed.
- Develops a Loss Prevention department opinion on conventional/renewable risks as input to Underwriting for property, excess liability, and cyber coverages.
- Participates in industry organizations (e.g., INPO, NEI, EEI, NFPA, ASTM, IEEE, ASME, EPRI), Advisory Committees and Working Groups (e.g., consciences code committees, EPRI groups, INPO groups), providing updates to colleagues.
- Identifies improvements in Loss Prevention Programs.
Must-Have Skills, Experience:
Job Knowledge
- Understanding of fire protection and detection design and maintenance; civil/mechanical and electrical engineering design; industrial building construction and design; power generation or industrial production facility maintenance; turbine- generator maintenance or operation; transformer maintenance; heavy lifting and rigging (>100 tons) practices
- Basic project management skills

Must-Have Education:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in design, operation, maintenance, repair, construction, or inspection of electric generating stations or industrial facilities (nuclear facilities) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or applied science from an accredited institute; or Associates Degree in a technical field with 5 years of related experience; or high school education and 6+ years of related experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel independently (30-35%)
- Ability to safely navigate power production areas, warehouses, storage yards, construction sites with uneven, wet icy, unstable or debris-covered surfaces in heat, snow, cold or rain, travel up and down ladders, etc.
- Potential exposure to extreme heat, high noise areas, and/or minimum levels of radiation.
- Ability to gain access to a Nuclear Power Plant.
