About The Role:
Reporting to the Quality Manager, we are seeking a highly driven Supplier Quality Engineer to ensure that our global supply base consistently delivers components and assemblies that meet stringent electrical, mechanical and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong attention to detail, experience with electrical / mechanical components and a commitment to continuous improvement. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for developing, qualifying and continuously improving suppliers that provide components for our switchgear production lines e.g. metal enclosures, breakers, wiring harnesses etc. This role ensures suppliers meet quality, cost, delivery and compliance expectations through structured audits, data-driven analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
What You'll Be Doing:
Supplier Quality Management:
- In conjunction with the Supply Chain Team, qualify new suppliers and manage ongoing supplier performance through audits, scorecards and process reviews.
- Ensure supplier adherence to relevant quality standards such as ISO 9001, UL, IEC and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- Implement and validate supplier onboarding processes e.g. PPAPs, control plans and process capability studies.
Component & Manufacturing Quality:
- Evaluate and validate incoming electrical / mechanical components including wiring harnesses, breakers, metal fabrications, transformers and subassemblies.
- Define supplier inspection requirements and collaborate with receiving inspection teams to maintain robust incoming quality controls.
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective action activities (8D, 5 Whys, PFMEA).
Continuous Improvement:
- Implement supplier development initiatives to reduce defect rates, improve yields and enhance process capability.
- Collaborate with peer departments to support NPI programs, design changes and VE efforts.
Issue Resolution:
- Manage supplier non-conformances, concession requests and containment actions.
- Analyze incoming quality data to proactively mitigate quality risks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with peer departments to ensure supplier readiness for new PDUs and product line extensions.
- Support prototype build and pilot production with strong focus on supplier process capability and component quality.
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related).
- +5 years of Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical / mechanical components and assemblies.
- Experience with supplier audits, PPAP, FMEA, control plans and statistical process control.
- Proficiency in root cause analysis tools (8D, Ishikawa, 5 Whys).
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and electrical schematics.
- Excellent communication and supplier-facing negotiation skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:
- Experience in low voltage electrical switchgear.
- Knowledge of UL / IEC safety standards for power distribution products.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification.
- Familiarity with SAP and supplier quality software.
