About the Role
Repair, modify, and overhaul various types of equipment and systems using portable machining tools. This role involves heavy physical activity, work in confined or overhead spaces, strict adherence to safety and quality standards, and frequent travel or overtime. The position requires strong technical knowledge, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work in demanding industrial and shipyard environments.
What You’ll Do
· Repair, install, test, and inspect ship machinery including propulsion systems, pumps, valves, ventilation equipment, steering gear, evaporators, heaters, condensers, and related mechanical systems
· Set up, align, and operate portable machining and hand tools
· Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, tachometers, thermometers, and vibration indicators
· Interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical specifications
· Accurately record measurements, test results, and repair documentation
· Perform work with limited supervision while maintaining safety and quality standards
· Work in shop, outdoor, confined, or overhead environments under varying conditions
· Travel as required and support overtime assignments

Must-Have Skills and Experience
· High School diploma or GED plus Apprenticeship Diploma, vocational training, or technical school graduate
· Military or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard
· Ability to obtain government base access
· Ability to pass knowledge and practical skills testing
· NAVSEA Hatch Inspector qualification
· Electroplating qualification
· Deep Submergence Systems certification (SOC MCD A, B, and C)
· SUBSAFE qualification
· Ability to obtain Secret or Confidential security clearance
· U.S. citizenship (no dual citizenship)
· Military or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard
· Ability to obtain government base access
· Ability to pass knowledge and practical skills testing
