Apprentice Propulsion Systems Technician
Location: Seattle (Salmon Bay), WA

About the Role
MSHS Pacific Power Group is seeking a motivated Apprentice Propulsion Systems Technician who is eager to learn, grow, and build a long-term career working on advanced marine propulsion systems. In this hands-on role, you will work closely with experienced Journey Level Technicians, gaining real-world exposure to marine engine inspection, diagnostics, overhauls, testing, and customer-facing service support.
This is an ideal opportunity for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoy problem-solving, teamwork, and learning complex propulsion and power systems in a professional service environment.
What You'll Do
- Assist in determining engine and unit condition through inspections and diagnostic testing
- Support Journey Level Technicians with engine overhauls and repairs identified during diagnostics
- Participate in sea trials, dyno acceptance testing, and performance verification activities
- Support warranty utilization and service/parts evaluation to help contain service costs
- Maintain accurate engine, vessel, and service documentation
- Communicate professionally with customers while on-site
- Clean, inspect, measure, and requalify engine components for reuse
- Preserve, vacuum bag, and prepare engines for shipment
- Learn manufacturer-specific commissioning trials and dyno acceptance procedures
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
- Take ownership of new tasks and proactively seek opportunities to add value
- Perform other duties as assigned
Must-Have Skills and Experience
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and understand service manuals, operating instructions, and work orders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Proficient with laptop/PC-based tools and documentation systems
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- High school mechanical coursework, trade school, or hands-on mechanical experience (preferred)
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Ability to travel within an assigned territory; occasional regional or international travel may be required
- Valid, unrestricted driver's license with an insurable driving record
- Ownership of a basic set of mechanic's tools
- Ability to complete company-provided manufacturer training (online and in-person)
- TWIC card (preferred)
- Valid passport (preferred)

Additional Details
- Salary Range: $34.00, Sign on Bonus $2,000 after 180 days.
- Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Work Environment: Field-based and shop-based
- Travel: Ability to travel within an assigned territory; occasional regional or international travel may be required up to 25%
