Description
This Field Service Technician role supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) and Marine Growth Prevention (anti-fouling) systems onboard commercial and government vessels including cruise ships, tankers, tugboats, and U.S. Navy/Coast Guard ships.
Technicians work both in the field and in shipyards, supporting drydock operations and performing pier side troubleshooting. This is a hands-on role requiring electrical, mechanical, and troubleshooting skills in marine environments.
Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain corrosion control systems onboard vessels
- Support installation and replacement of electronic equipment, anodes, and reference cells during drydock periods
- Perform wiring and electrical work on systems up to 480V / three-phase power
- Conduct system testing and diagnostics using industry-standard tools
- Perform pier-side service calls for inspections, troubleshooting, and system checks
- Supervise and assist shipyard personnel during installations and repairs
- Prepare tools, equipment, and materials for field mobilization
- Complete service reports, inspection documentation, and test records
- Assist with shop operations including pre-delivery checks and equipment preparation
Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education
- Some shipboard or marine experience required
- Basic understanding of electricity and electronics
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose issues, and implement corrective actions
- Experience using electrical testing equipment and tools
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently in field environments
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience working with corrosion control systems or marine equipment
- Prior experience in shipyards or drydock environments
- Familiarity with three-phase electrical systems (480V)
- Military experience (Navy, Coast Guard, or similar maritime roles)
- Experience working on offshore platforms or vessels
