Description

Reporting to an Executive Vice President, General Managers are responsible for the overall performance of an assigned market, including revenue growth, profitability, operations, and customer service. This individual owns the market P&L, leads the local team, and works closely with the EVP and the company Leadership Team to carry out company strategy and improve operational performance. The General Manager is expected to take full ownership of results and lead change in the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision and Execution


  • Ensures the market achieves short- and long-term revenue growth and profitability goals.
  • Develops and carries out an annual business plan for the market in line with corporate strategy.
  • Monitors progress against business objectives and directs corrective action as needed.
  • Directs implementation of sound operating and financial practices to maximize profitable growth.
  • Presents regular reports on market performance to the Executive Vice President and the Leadership Team.
  • Identifies opportunities for new business, service expansion, and operational improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, codes, and standards.

Organizational Leadership

  • Leads, coaches, and develops managers and staff across sales, installation, service, and administration.
  • Builds a culture of accountability, safety, and high performance.
  • Integrates new business and acquired operations into the market and transitions them to company policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Supports managers in the prompt and effective resolution of legal, financial, human resources, and administrative issues; coordinates with shared services functions.
  • Ensures a consistent focus on high-quality customer service and retention of profitable business; resolves significant client issues.
  • Recruits and retains qualified talent and plans for succession within the market.

Financial and Operational Oversight

  • Owns the market P&L and operates within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization.
  • Prepares the annual operating and capital budgets for the market in coordination with the Executive Vice President and Finance.
  • Reviews financial results and key performance indicators, including revenue, margin, backlog, recurring monthly revenue, and labor utilization, and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Ensures sound financial policies and practices and operates in accordance with those policies.
  • Oversees project execution, scheduling, and technician productivity to meet quality, timeline, and margin targets.
  • Ensures compliance with safety programs, licensing, regulatory requirements, and contractual obligations.
  • Signs agreements and other instruments on behalf of the market within approved authority limits.

Must-Have Skills, Experience, & Education:

  • Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible leadership experience, including P&L or operational responsibility, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company.
  • Proven ability to improve operational performance and lead change.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Success oriented with a high degree of ownership, energy, and motivation, and the ability to inspire others to accomplish goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to travel within the assigned market and to company offices as needed.

Nice-To-Have Skills, Experience, & Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field preferred.
  • Military leadership experience a plus.
  • Experience in the fire, life safety, security, or related field service industry preferred.
  • Experience in a Private Equity environment preferred.
