Electrician

Northeast
US Navy, E-6

I am on terminal leave now and achieved my goal of getting hired before getting out of the military! I am now an Electrician with Nucor Steel. I learned most of the fundamentals I needed to be successful in an electrical/electronic career as an Aegis Fire Controlman First Class (E-6) in the Navy, but, most of all, I learned practical life knowledge. This knowledge has been much more important in the grand scheme of things than any of the knowledge I can pick up a book for. Experiencing ups and downs in the Navy really taught me to do more with less, to be patient and polite, responsibility for millions of dollars’ worth of equipment, and to be confident in stressful situations.

Tony Hoffman from Orion was absolutely outstanding when it came to assisting me with everything from resume writing to pre-interview jitters. He kept me level headed about expectations and kept me excited and confident during the sometimes frustrating hiring process.

When the interviewer from my company had to cancel at the last minute, Tony stayed on top of things with the help of John Collins, and they got me a phone interview the next week with the interviewer. It all fell into place from there. I spoke with him prior to all three interviews with Nucor, and he gave me all the advice I needed to be successful. I can't thank Tony and John enough for leading me to this wonderful career opportunity!
