Service Technician

South Central
US Navy, O-3

In January, I was laid off from my first civilian job after thirteen years. Prior to that job, I had been an O-3 in the Navy Submarine Service. After I was laid off, I began networking on LinkedIn and began working with Orion. At Orion, I worked with Bill Fitzgerald and Bob Berkholz.

The nuclear navy always made me feel that I was facing big challenges in terms of technology and personal productivity. Upon transitioning to my civilian jobs, I felt that I could handle virtually any technological challenge and that I was well-equipped to remain productive despite multi-tasking and high pressure to deliver results. With this experience under my belt, I feared that I may be seen as overqualified for many positions, but Bob and DJ Holder helped frame my experience in a way that I would not be perceived as too analytical or overqualified for the job.

I would refer my friends to Orion because their recruiters seem to have great access to client companies’ hiring managers. Access to a hiring manager is incredibly difficult to get right now. Orion’s ability to get past the HR screening is the key to getting offers. In addition, Orion connected me with an industry which is projected to grow significantly over the next decade and more.
