Manager

Northeast
US Navy, O-3

I left the Navy in May of 2003 and held a civil service job for five years. I began a new job search in November 2007 with the intent of leaving my civil service position after June 2008 due to retirement and pension vesting requirements. Orion International had been helpful when I first left the military and was searching for jobs, so, although I didn't wind up finding a job through them, I remembered their professionalism and service and decided to contact them again.

Mike Wood, my recruiter, was great. He listened to all my concerns, as well as the reasons I had for leaving. He also took time to understand what I believed my compensation and geographic requirements were, as well as what I believed my interests were in looking for a new position. He was pro-active in developing my resume, as well as bringing me to recruiting conferences.

Mike would send me positions he believed most closely met my requirements and took time to discuss both the position and the company. When I discussed the positions with him, we would then decide when I would be able to either meet with the company or conduct a phone interview. I attended two conferences and had three interviews with prospective employers.

I am now the Manager of Engineering Business Development at Jones Lang Lasalle, which is not a position that I was originally looking for, because I didn't know they existed. Orion did a great job in broadening my perspective of what types of positions were available for people with my experience and training. I'm glad they did.

Orion was the only recruiting agency that did not “write me off” after hearing my concerns and requirements. They continued to provide me with feasible options and were patient while I continued to evaluate positions. Orion not only helped me find a new job, but they guided me through the negotiations and interview process to help me get the best job and compensation package possible. I am truly grateful for all the help they provided both myself and my family.
